I think webcams are a fantastic idea in a nursery/childminders home, I know a nursery that does this and you need a password to access it online.
Knowing that a parent can look in at any time at their children must surely make the staff more aware of how they are dealing with incidents.
I hope your daughter settles in fine in her new nursery0 -
I have just found this thread after missing it the first time round,
I am amazed no-one suggested telling the little boys parents !! If my son was treated like that i would want to know, equally if he was a little !!!!e who needed to be disciplined.

great news, glad you got it sorted
i think webcams are a fab idea in daycare too0 -
Great to hear it's all sorted, the posts made horrified me. Both of my sons attended a mainstream nursery after 3 which allowed them to stay full days. One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
I too think that the webcams are a great idea - provides a lot of reassurance to the parents being able to check in on their children while they are working.
If the nursery starts chasing for fees, take a stand and dont pay them anything - they shouldnt expect anything after the way that they have treat your childWeight Loss - 102lb0 -
I know people have to work and sometimes parents have no choice but to put their children in to day care but personally i do not believe in it. I would never send my little girl to a nursery as I dont beleive in strangers bringing up my child. I Knew this sort of thing would go on at these places and this just confirms my suspicions that these things do.
I have just gone back to work and am lucky that my mum and my Hubby are able to take care of her while I am at work. I know she is safe and being loved.
I have many friends who send their children to a nursey and they say themselfs that they have missed so much of them growing up and thats something i do not want to miss.
I dont think these nurserys can look after your child as well as you can
sorry to go on this is just my opinion no offence intended, I know sometimes there is no other choice but to do this.Mum to 2 beautiful daughters born Oct 05 & Oct 08

Hi there
I'm a nursery nurse room leader in a private nursery (running the 1-2 room).
What you saw in your little girls nursery is sadly very common.
There are many qualified staff who are basically crap at their jobs.
When we go to college it's mostly writen work we have to do and very little practical and hands on work so alot of people are very clever at being bale to know all the laws, planning and such yet they lack common sense, and being able to interact with children.
I know of many girls in my work who are very very harsh on the kids (and staff) and it's made me and many other staff feel very insecure around her.
the thing you have to remember is that children can be silly and "naughty" and yes they do sometimes needs telling off but what good is shouting at them going to do? absolutly nothing
I would recomend you speak to the manager and voice your concerns to her and say if nothing gets done about it you'll inform the local authorities and they will soon get something done about it.
good luck0 -
My dd didnt go to private nursery but started in jan 06 at a nursery at the local school. She has just started back and will not go up to reception class till sept 07 ( she was only 3 a few weeks before starting nursery)
We have 2 older staff members at nursery one who retired in aug ( which was sad as she had taught all my 4 kids) And 3 other staff aged around 25-35.
I have heard lots of stories about private nurserys and i would opt for a local school nursery every time, they run along side the infant school and my dd loves it.She would stay all day +night if she could.
Glad to here op that you sorted things out, and do not pay and more fees even if they say you have too.Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
Quoted by FSDSS....<unfortunatley nurseries are full of young adults who are on the minimum wage, and often intelligence levels of those employed are not of a high standard. ( i'm not saying that all employees an unintelligent, its just that the wages attract these type of people) and these few people mar the rest of the good workers / carers that are doing their vocational job>
I have only come across this thread, and I agree with FSDSS, as my daughter works in a nursery, and over the years some of the staff that has worked there have in my mind been a bit dodgy.
By law there must be X amount of qualified staff for every X amount of non qualified, and the owner of these nurseries gets hold of these young girls, who the majority are too thick to go any further in thier education, therefore they work in a nursery for minimum wage, and some are treated like skivvies, they have no interest in the children, to them its a job to tide them over till something better comes along.
There are a few who do want to make a comitment out of it, and who do enjoy thier job, but I would be very wary specially when there is a high turnover in staff at the nursery.
I am only saying this cause my daughter has worked in the same nursery for 10 years, and she is one of the good ones.
I do think web cams are an excellent idea, and its worth paying a tad more just to be able to see what is going on.0 -
Thanks misgrace...I completely agree with what you said. I have since heard that the nursery is being sold to the current manager and since that news came out staff are leaving regulary. Your daughter seems to be dedicated to her job havind done it for 10 years...that;'s great.0
