    bills are not confusing

Mark - I disagree with you about the bills and I guess this is a subjective matter.

I find them confusing (and I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics so I'm not easily confused).

I can't come up with specific points about it right now because I don't have a bill infront of me, but if you want me to justify that then I'm happy to do so at a later point when I can see a bill but the way the VAT and breakdowns are done is counter intuitive to me when it should be quite straight forward.

It's shouldn't be overly crucial to most people, but if you want to check your bills (I always do with ALL bills) then it makes it more complicated to check.

Having said that, for balance, I would like to say that TPlus are the cheapest for me and that's why I put up with the various problems I've had.

BTW - I did have problems with my initial meter reading and TPlus made things quite difficult by telling me something different everytime I phoned i.e. they said they had accepted the reading by phone and then later insisted on a fax, in the meantime I got a huge bill with no notice.
So I don't think you can always say it's the 3rd parties and not Tplus. P.S I have the dates and names, so have the full story if it is required.

BTW - I am not a generally negative person. Actually I'm quite a happy one.
However the reason it might look like some of us are negative is that we want to balance out the views of the vested interests (which you need to accept DO put things in the best possible light - that's your job after all).

I am not totally negative about Tplus (if I was, I would have left by now). However some of us want to try and balance out the discussion when there are vested interests around because I'm afraid you guys don't paint an accurate picture either (the big example being the ASA judgements against the claims made by TPlus).

So whilst you might think some of us come across as negative, I believe that it's only because you guys are presenting a "rose-coloured" picture that does not reflect our actual experiences.
Not all of us are bitter and twisted individuals :)

Who accepts the responsibility for the continuing misleading and untruthful advertising, then?

In June, the ASA upheld 4 complaints against T+ for misleading advertising (including the claim made that they offer "the cheapest gas & electricity").

We know that the T+ website is unregulated as far as telling the truth in adverts, but a reputable operation wouldn't take advantage of this - especially after being hauled over the coals by the ASA!

I do have a gripe with TPlus as the previous pages indicate. By the way the company you represent still have not had the decency to send me the contract I signed dispite several request.

And once more I will warn members of this site that TPlus hide in their contracts the fact that if at anytime you have given them your Credit Card number they will then use this at a later date to take monies from your Credit Card account with out your knowledge. SO IF YOU ARE IN DISPUTE OVER A PAYMENT AND CANCEL YOUR DIRECT DEBIT THEY WILL TAKE THE MONEY.

In my case they had to make a refund as they had made an error of which would had gone unnoticed. The same of overcharging on the VAT, they have done this also.

For the sake of repeating myself I ask members to read previous postings.

  • Well Smartasss it looks like the man from British Gas would disagree with the ASA. Below is an extract from Telecom Plus's weekly newsletter, apart from removing the full name of N.... it is un-edited.

    >“The other evening whilst I was at the COP in Elstree, British
Gas called to the house to see if we would like to go back to them.
The chap asked my husband who supplies us now! N.... said Telecom
plus, his reply was "Hands up you win!" and then ask for the
telephone number of the person who signed us up, which of course
was me! He left his card for me to call him Tuesday morning, which
I did, he called round that afternoon, signed over telephone, gas
electric and internet. When asked if he would like a quote first
for the energy he said, "No - I KNOW they're the cheapest" He also
said that when he calls at other Telecom plus customers homes, they
know they are the cheapest too!”

And of course this does not take into account the fact that any customer can join as a Customer Gathering Associate (it costs £25) and earn up to 100% discount on all their T+ bills

The man from British Gas is like your self on commission as he works for a person who takes an over ride on each deal. BG supply the uniform and the Badge but they don't get one penny from BG the same goe's for most door knockers. So what point are you trying to make? ??? I would stake that the so BG man will be working the Telecom Plus game shortly.

  • Lisyloo the implication of your last post is that the story about the man from British Gas has been made up. I certainly did not make it up and since the newsletter that it came from is only read by T+ distributors there would not be a lot of point in someone else doing so.

COS if British Gas don't pay their door knockers why do these people do it. Where do you get your information from?

No that was not the implication that I intended.

I believe that everything you have said is true, however I would suggest that we do not know the qualifications of the unknow nBritish gas man.

I think it is highly unlikely that this person has done comprehensive research of all consumption types across the nation whereas I think this is the type of reasearch that the ASA do before reaching a judgment.

I do not believe anybody has lied but I believe that he is mistaken about the extent of his knowledge.

As you know, tarriffs are quite complex because the vary geographically and for different consumption levels.

I don't think many individuals have the resources to do this level of research but I belive that the ASA does.

Its a well known fact that this practice has been going on for years Britiish Gas even the guys who have a stall in Saisburys every so often, all agency workers,  Southern Electricity, Scottish Power, you will find alot of these guys are doing the charity rip off where they stop you in the street also.  An example of how the knocker gets the  commission is for example £10.00 a application with a signiture, £5.00 for the S number or Metre point reference number and £2.00 for the direct Debit, commission earnt £15.00 a little more depending on how much the teamleaders override is. There was more money to be made on the business contracts.

There was notice of a big scam last night on the main stream news regarding people door knocking on be half of the RSPCA in portsmouth, they tell the customer that all the money go's to the charity where in fact it don't, but thats another story.

My advice is anyone who stops you in the street is ask them to email you the details or tell them to go away.

Don't give them any other personal details including Bank accounts !
