I made the mistake of using the USwitch website, and finding that Telecom Plus appeared to be the cheapest for my usage.

I entered my details and a few days later got some forms to sign, apparently I already had a customer number despite having not signed anything.

I immediatley emailed them telling them where to shove it, referring to the the numerous complaints and problems people using this site have had.

So thank you everyone, I apologise that some of you are having problems, but you have saved others from being done over, which is what this site is all about.

    :o:o:o

Do you mean you just typed in some numbers to check to see what savings you might make and had not proceeded to consent to being signed up?

I think you might regret doing that my friend. TP+ is certainly the cheapest form and although I had some late bill problems, everything worls ok now. Being "done over" is a bit harsh.

Cheapest doesn't mean it is always the best option to go with.

I gave details online, through the T+ website, such as my address etc. What I received was a letter with an account number on it - yet I hadn't signed anything to give consent to an account. With the covering letter were two forms to sign and send back.

They went with Friday's rubbish collection.

Sometimes it is worth paying a little more for peace of mind. I certainly don't want to start the changing over process, then have to spend ages sorting things out. Of course there will be some that have had no problems, but they are too few and far between for me at the moment.

  • Hello Daveboy,
I don't claim to know the exact procedures when customers sign up on the T+ website but when we distributors see customers about taking energy services we either get a quote for the customer and/or a contract from head office which they must sign and return. If the customer does not sign and return the contract another one is sent after three weeks and if that is not returned nothing happens. The reference number is simply a means of identifying the applicant/customer. On the front of all customer application forms it says "I understand that I am not under any obligation to transfer my gas or electricity to Telecom Plus by indicating my interest in these services on this form" I am not aware of Telecom Plus ever transferring energy users without their consent. Many of my family, neighbours and friends are energy customers and they have encountered few problems with the changeover.
You may be interested to know that in my experience one of the most common problems arises when the supplier you are leaving does not agree your final reading and suggests a higher or lower one. This may or may not work to your advantage but unless there is a huge difference I always advise customers to accept it as it will speed up the changeover and avoid complications. The important point is that both your old and new supplier agree the reading on the transfer day.

Telecom Plus has about 180,000 customers and that figure is increasing rapidly because the Company offers good value for money. If you look through this site you will see that many companies have had a rough ride but that does not mean to say that the majority of their customers are dissatisfied.

I wouldn't consider a few comments posted here - some from current customers, some disgruntled customers and some just plainly disgruntled people - to be indicative of the true picture representing over 180 000 TP customers.

Lewis is correct with the detail he has provided and there is nothing wrong with the process TP use for energy applications. In fact it is very specific and gives the applicant the option to proceed or not, very clearly indeed.

If you judge an organisation on a few comments made in a forum, you are only serving to enforce whatever belief you wish to believe, not the true picture (in most forums on the internet, subject matter is often negated), as it is here.

I would also like to mention that while a number of individuals may have experienced events not to their liking with their relationship with TP, not all of the relevant detail relating to the individuals actions and experiences has been posted here, thereby painting only a small part of the picture.

TP are unique in that no other competitor (not to my knowledge) has an independent team of distributors that work with them and their customers for the benefit of all concerned. While distributors like Lewis and myself do not have specific access to all the systems TP Head Office has - or the means to resolve all customer issues - most distributors will try to help in whatever way they can. Unfortunately, this isn't always possible. However, we are all easily contactable and willing to help when we can do so.

As Lewis has discovered, ALL of the problems I have encountered with customer energy applications (a very small number) have specifically related to heel dragging from the third parties - i.e. thrid party energy providers being obstructive.

daveboy - as hansi quite rightly mentioned: "Being 'done over' is a bit harsh" - quite correct.

NB: I laughed quietly to myself when a friend said to me today that she was rather short of cash this month because her tied-in mobile deal bill with 'FREE' minutes was £109! Mmmm. A lot of money for 'FREE' minutes I thought...

I would advise members to carfully reconsider before joining TPlus and also reserve judgment before changing supplier at the moment until the market setttles. Also Its great to save money but not at the expence of reps being paid commission as their advice is some what biased. The bills are confusing as already mentioned and they are very very dishonest at head office.

I returned to Southern Electricity and breathed a sigh of relief after dealing with TPlus and when you compare the difference in cost between the two companies I have made the better choice and gone for quality.

    PS
Smartass I see TPlus have a recruiting drive this month. ;D I await the price increase. Any one know how much ?
Rememember. Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.
Never pass up an opportunity to go to the bathroom.
If you woke up breathing, congratulations! You get another chance. And finally, be really nice to your family and friends; you never know
when, You might need them to empty your bedpan.
  • You certainly do have a gripe with them Chris don't you?

Also, the never-ending gripe re: commission.

Personally, I cannot understand anyone who has a bee in their bonnet re: commission. At the end of the day, somebody somewhere is paid for what work they have done. It is not unaccaptable to be paid by one method but not another. I did not receive anything for your custom.

Your specific experience relates specifically to you (and leaves out detail that others don't know about), yet the attack still prevails.

Your comments - as they regularly are - are also defamatory: Head Office are not dishonest and bills are not confusing.

Unsurprisingly, nothing has changed in the time I have been away and I find it sad to think that individuals can have such a negative viewpoint on something like this.

I can only imagine they feel the same about a whole lot more...
