Ok, (we, yes OH as well) may be getting a bit ranty about future in laws (his parents not mine.) when we got engaged they said they would match whatever my parents gave us in terms of money. We said that's very generous, thank you etc.
They said they would pay for the band on the night, and carry on giving my OH some money after he started his job (he was a student till feb) so it made no real difference to their net gain. Feb came and they stopped the money and made this big deal out of stopping it- jokingly saying they were free etc. we were a little confused...

OH won't ask outright if we are still getting the money, but they keep on implying that they are a little cash stripped atm. We don't mind if they are not goiń to give us the money, but they need to tell us! Grr! We have just rebudgeted this weekend on the assumption that we r getting nothing. But it would have been better if they had just told us this in Feb! They are usually so open about this stuff aswell, so it is a bit wierd.

    And breath....

Oh dear - maybe somethign has happened to them financially, that they don't feel comfortable talking about? You just need to know really so you can revise the budget accordingly. Why don't you say to them the venue need payment in advance so you need th money they are giving you now, to pay the caterers etc. Or casually drop it into conversation somehow?

Oh tried that... (the dropping it into conversation). He said my dad had sent the cheque for the marquee. then his mum said that they would have to go into savings to pay for the band... Which we got because they said they would pay for it. But its still only a third of what they said they would give us.
We have just assumed that that is all we are getting. It's just annoying that they haven't come out with it.
But they have just brought a new car with personalised plate, so can understand if they are a little cash strapped this month!

Oh, I would be so anxious! They've put you in an awkward spot by promising this money and you've made bookings based on it. Hope they keep their word xxx

Jo - maybe you just need to be outright and ask, seeing as dropping subtle hints.
Better to find out now, and re-adjust if you need to.

Yeah, FMiL is meant to be staying over this weekend, so I think I will ask (or get OH to ask) directly. Oh n rainbowdrops, I'm meeting with your dressmaker on Wednesday! :) I didn't realise she was south east- its actually just down the road from me! :)
It's not like we need the money, it just makes saving a lot easier, as we had worked out how much money went into savings each month, n now it needs to increase. But hey.

we had this problem as well with OHs parents. They promised us £500 when we set a date, a year ago, saying we'd get it at Xmas time. It never materialised, so we budgeted without it (OH refused to ask them about it :o). Then his mum suddenly brought it up 2 weeks ago and we did get it - which now means we have an extra £500 to play with :D. If it is a very substantial amount (ie you NEED it), then I'd say you need to find out NOW if you are getting it. Although £500 is a lot, prob about a quarter of our overall budget, it was by no means really needed by us so it wasn't too big a deal - just something that grated on me lol!

I'm sticking my head round into this thread again...

I'm not a bride having got married last May, but I'm currently feeling more and more upset as the weeks pass. My brother is getting married this month and this is what they have done to awaken the bridezilla in me....

1 - They are getting married two days before our first wedding anniversary. This wouldn't be so bad if not for all the other items on the list
2 - They have chosen the same venue
3 - They have chosen the same colour scheme
4 - They chose the same vistaprint wedding invitations
    5 - She's having the same car
6 - They've chosen the same method of transport for the evening guests
7 - My nephew is wearing the exact same outfit he did for our wedding
8 - My SIL (to be) will be wearing my tiara and veil.
9 - The same table decorations woman is doing their decorations

Is it just me? Or would any of you be upset by this...?

I would just find it funny. What is there to be upset about?
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

Aw, thanks Roz! :) Yes, I am fine thanks. It was mainly just my mum, OH and BM being completely uninterested in anything to do with the wedding, and me having to do everything! But they've all come good in the last few days and are helping. Thank goodness!

    How are you? xx
