I'm sure I've taken it worse than I normally would because I don't feel well at all but I am so peeved.....
When OH asked his parents back in January if they would come abroad for us to get married they said they would (they have never been abroad) but his mum said his sister would be gutted if she couldn't see him get married and she wouldn't be able to travel as she couldn't afford it - which is fair enough.
Well, after todays comments that's obviously a load of b0ll0x and I am tempted to just go away now.

I've had comments like this too. It can be very upsetting.
We've been together 12 years and have 3 children and It feels like some people think we should either stay as we are (unmarried) or have a quick wedding with no fuss. I'm not going to say too much publicly just incase Im ever outed but some comments from some family members have come across as being really rude and spiteful. Some haven't even offered their congratulations. I really don't get it.Win £2012 in 2012 £149/£2012

Thanks for sharing emmalouise, I do understand that people have their own experiences of marriage and divorce and that obviously some people let it cloud their objectivity but I always remember the saying 'if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all', I would never dream of saying something that mean to someone who just announced they were getting married. We have been together four years now so it isn't a whirlwind romance, we are both in our 30s so not kids either.

Exactly. I would never be so rude either. How hard is it to just smile and say a quick 'congrats'?
Pffft. We need to just ignore the negativity and focus on the good stuff. We have a wedding to planWin £2012 in 2012 £149/£2012

Need a rant...
I had a meeting with a venue dresser last Monday. She was fab and showed me how to save money in certain areas. One of them being making my own seating plan. I've had several conversations with OH this week about it, told him my ideas and he has been in full agreement about it.
I was playing around on Word last night and came up with what I thought was a fab design for the top table bit. Showed OH and it said it looked fine.
10 minutes later he asks how much it's going to cost to make it versus buying one from the venue dresser. I tell him around £15 to make, £45 to buy. Then he says for the sake of £30 why don't we just buy it? I asked him if he didn't like what I'd designed and he said he did, just that it'd be easier to buy it.
I might just be being silly, but I felt kind of put out and feel like he doesn't like it and he's just trying to be polite. I really did think it looked great. I went off to bed after that and we've not mentioned it since.
What doesn't help is that after some help from you lovely ladies I had already ordered some supplies for it which have cost me £13 (which also means it's going to cost me more than £15 to make!!).

If youve already got some bits for it, I would just get on and make it. If you said 'for the sake of £30' on every wedding item it would soon add up!!0 -

I thought it would be him reining me in, but it's the other way round... I found a jag and a rolls for £500 but he booked a Maserati (for him) and a fancy car (not sure what it is!) for me for £1090
I'm gonna give it few days and gently broach it again and just I really wanna make it. Which I do! Been smoke free for 4 years!! :beer:0 -
I am really freaking out about saving enough money for the wedding. I'm not even sure why, as we're well over half way there savings-wise and we'll have it all by the wedding. I keep going back to my budget making sure that I've got everything there and haven't forgotten something huge that's going to cost loads.
It doesn't help that we've had a busy month financially, and now today I have to loan my jobless brother £100 which has had to come out of my savings. Its not a lot but just now every time I spend money I have a mild panic attack.0 -
