for some reason when it comes to weddings, some people tend to lose all abilities to plan themselves, their transport and their accommodation. It is like they expect to be entertained for the day plus not have to plan how to get there or what to wear. Or maybe that's just our guests...!!!

I've got 2 guests that can't do anything for themselves. My MIL is expected to book their hotel room for them (and is not sure if she has to pay for it), pick them up from the airport, entertain them while they are in the UK and drop them back at the airport. So she will be busy with them and can't help with the last minute wedding stuff. Oh and I don't think they are going to bother RSVP properly. How hard is it to send back the RSVP card. I didn't even want these people there but MIL insists as they are family friends. I've only met them once and apart from that time, OH last saw them when he was 10.
  • We are using the reception car park, and walking to and from the registry office 5 minutes away. This is partly because of limited spaces and we have a few elderly relatives coming who can't do the walk so our few spaces are given over to those who need them. H2B's nephew is going to make sure only those who can't do the walk use the parking spaces, and those with impractical shoes will have to walk or get dropped off and collected. We are taking a few bottles of fizz, so everyone can have a glass as they walk back to the reception - provided we don't all get arrested for drinking in the street on a Friday afternoon.

    Just hope it doesn't rain

    Expertly put.

I had friends round on Friday who asked how they were getting from the ceremony to the Evening Reception. I said I was walking (it's a 3-5min walk along the same street....) two of them were horrified, and said they didn't want to walk. Looking at me as though i'd sort it for them???? I said that's up to them but I'd be walking with my h2b and moh, bm etc........

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How cheeky of them!

  • Ladies... I have to have a rant / confession...

My BMs have voiced the fact that they aren't too keen on wearing my colour scheme - dark blue/navy blue - god knows why, its a winter wedding and i think it'll look great - and they want to wear a light blue/icy blue - I told them I would consider it but unbeknown to them, my mum and I are only looking at dark blue dresses!!

I am just wondering to myself why cant they just deal with the colour I give them - its not like I am giving them neon orange to wear!!!

Dont get me wrong I want them to feel comfortable, but I am not going to make them wear something horrible!

Please tell me I am not going overboard on this? Surely they should wear what they are given - especially as I am paying for them!

Worst thing about it is, we wont even start looking properly until this Autumn!

    Argh. Rant over!

I think that navy is super flattering, catalunya! Have you discussed styles of dresses, fabrics etc as well as the colour? If I were a BM I'd be more worried about having to wear (say) satin than what colour I was in! Are these girls fussy types usually? Could you say to yourself 'I'll worry about it in 6 months' time' or else find blog photos of BMs in fab navy dresses to show them? Oh and was their school uniform navy? Maybe it put them off navy for life :D

I'm so glad that I picked the most easygoing BM in the world! She's a bit TOO laidback sometimes and isn't that bothered about the wedding but at least she's not a BM-zilla!! But also we chose a stunning dress for her that we both loved. :)

I think that I will forget about it for a little while - I think they were both quite excited about the prospect and obviously want to be involved! I have left them to find some design ideas... they unfortunately found Dessy's site and I straight away said that was a no-no unless I win the lottery!!

It'll be better once I can get them into the same room and have a conversation about it that isnt over facebook! Conversations are so easily misconstrude and I would hate to think I have taken their thoughts the wrong way.

Also they are both on weight loss journeys so I think that maybe worrying them a bit... At least my Mum is on my side and they wouldnt want to upset her so I think she is going to take the lead on this one :D

 If they're overweight, light blue ain't going to do them any favours!

You're taking the right approach. Let the dust settle, then talk to them face to face.

My BM's dress is Dessy but I'm getting it half price as it's from the same shop as my dress. Haggling is the way forward!!! :D And you can also find them on eBay :)

  • I think I may just "happen" to buy my wedding dress from a shop that happens to be a stockist of Dessy :)

Although - they had a good deal at a wedding fair I went to - the shop was offering a free Dessy gown when you bought your dress! Not a bad buy! Its all about the research I guess!

Wow, that's a pretty good deal alright!

Although I haggled £200 off my dress as well so I'm saving £350 between the two dresses! Very MSE :rotfl:

  • I am feeling like a brideszilla, despite trying my best to be the opposite.

I am sick and tired of people sticking their noses into my wedding - i just want it to be a quiet, pleasant affair. Surely all those things that I 'HAVE to do' aren't that important? If they're not important to us, why should we bother?

Not helped by the fact I went to a wedding at the weekend which was the most OTT event i've ever seen (worse than DTTB etc!). They had everything from birds of prey displays to singing waiters. Was very entertaining to be a guest there, but there was so much !!!!!ing behind the brides back that i felt embarrased at times. To me, my small(ish) wedding will mean just as much as their huge display of how much money they have, and I want to be allowed to do it my way :( Is that too much to ask?
