    - you do know that if Tesco overcharge you, their policy is that you can get double the difference back (overcharged by £2, you get £4 back)

    Not any more I'm afraid!
they officially stopped that policy about a year ago.
Do let us know if you have a local Tesco still operatibg it, we'll all come!:p

As far as I am aware Tesco haven't stopped DTD, if your local store has then it is the manager trying to save cash rather than head office telling them to.

This is really interesting as it was the manager himself that told me it was a change of national policy!!
Will pursue this so thanks to all who have responded.:T
  • I work in customer service myself (very different to supermarkets but we do deal with billing issues) and I am amazed at how many people believe that the Cashier/Advisor/Assistant is trying to rip them off, or when they spot a mistake they fabricate a huge conspiracy theory that the company is trying to purposely rip them off. trust me - they arent. Yes sometimes mistakes are made - and when this happens to you - you tell on average ten people - those of us who use these sites could tell literally thousands, this is why it seems so common. how many times do you see people come on here and say 'oh my god - I made a huge mistake in asda today - i thought X was Bogof - turns out i read it wrong - i am such a div' ?? answer never - we NEVER read things wrong - Tesco/Asda/Morrisons are purposely tricking us so they get exposure on sites like this ??? I think not!

I have been overcharged twice on different products on my last 2 visits. Went to customer services for the refund... both times they only offered the difference, until I asked about double the difference which they then gave me without a quibble. On the 2nd visit the guy did say that they do not offer the DTD unless you ask for it.

I complained to Somerfield/Co-op about a over charge of 9p on conditioner. Not much but I was only buying 2 items. Was refunded the difference.

Actually, you're wrong. I know people who work IN THE SUPERMARKETS THAT HAVE BEEN TALKED ABOUT. They are told to put different sized products in spaces when the ones that are on offer run out....therefore the customer doesn't get the deal (and doesn't realise). They are also told to leave promotions signs up WHEN the promotion has ended, so customers think it's still on and don't check their receipt. It's largely not the fault of the sales advisors because they are only doing what they have been told BUT these multi national companies are out to make a profit and are often very sneaky. The managers have targets to meet and can be very sly as well. All you have to do is read the excuses CS give people for why they shouldn't get their money back. Either they haven't been trained correctly (sometimes the case) or they have been told to tell these customers things e.g. "The BOGOF starts tomorrow....it doesn't matter that those prices are out because that was just an error in the store and you can't have them at that price today"....even though lots of people will already think they have! Not all customer service roles are like this, but I can assure you that in large supermarkets they are. Don't be so naive.

I've found that it varies from store to store.

A very bold statement to make - i would disagree - having also worked in retail but hey ho - your opinion is your own.

out of interest - why would a company such as tesco offer double the difference on refunds - if they were also purposely over charging?
