I check my receipts everytime I go to the supermarket now, especially Tesco. The last three times I've been i've been overcharged, one was on the 9.00 meal deal that made it 17 quid instead, and it was because the veggie option is no longer included so I couldn't even get DTD.

I always check my Tesco receipt. I never question the prices as they're scanning, so I can get the DTD at cust services. I recently had some muller yogurts on 8 4 £2 & I'm sure she deliberately only scanned 7 in the hope I wouldn't check!

to be honest I very much doubt any till worker would be doing anything to deliberately defraud you, it is far easier for them to just scan your shopping, let you go home happy and they can have an easy shift. Having done the job myself you want as few queries as you can on your shift!

I think a lot of these issues are just caused by the ridiculous amount of promotions (which often offer poor savings anyway...) that the supermarkets now offer, its rare to find a product that is being offered at its standard price, there's no wonder some discrepancies are found between the electronic data on their systems and the price tickets on the shop shelves.

Surely if it is no longer on the offer you haven't been overcharged. You have been charged correctly but you haven't checked if it is still on offer. The options on the meal deal change weekly.

I ALWAYS check my reciepts from every shop I go into especially Tesco and Asda. If something is on offer I always read the ticket very closely so I KNOW it's the right size, flavour, brand etc. that i'm picking up. It saves me from wondering when I check my receipt "was that the right thing I picked up or not?" It saves me from going round the shop to make sure I had picked up the correct offer if the offer didn't come off in the first place, IYKWIM! ;)
  • Saw this and just thought i would post that dont you check all your receipts all the time? The reason i ask is that i went to Sainsburys today, Coke was on bogof (£3 each i think) i also bought some other bits and i guestimated my bill to be around £4.xx when the total came up it was £7.xx and the cashier started to snod and says yes thats definately right, then realises that the offer hadnt come up cause the till was slow ( his explanation) and pressed a button and voila £4.5x , but he was ready for me to pay the £7.xx cause he had already asked for my card. It wouldnt have been so comical if the bogof on coke sign hadnt been right in front of his till :rotfl: and i had half turned towards it to show him the signs lol.
Moral of the story always check the receipt, as an aside ive had the most mistakes in sainsburys, they also charged me twice for one dress, was checking receipt in car so lucky there.
You laugh because I'm different......I laugh cause I just farted!

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt. (A.C)

He hadn't pressed enter is probably what had happened. Some of the offers don't show until you enter what is called tender mode where they can take payment from you.

Your card wouldn't have worked without being in this mode so you wouldn't have been charged the higher price.

Sometimes in sainsburys I've noticed that occasionally the checkout person will tell you the price before the discounts are taken off. The discount seem to be taken off when they press the button just before you put your card in. Not sure if that's a common occurance or not though :undecided

(Helix got there before me - I was too busy looking for a smiley!)
    Looking forward to the future.

I've done it plenty of times, I just totally forget & don't realise until it say's for the customer to remove their card.

    SORRY :rotfl:
