The only safe option would be the morning-after pill. Of course it's not abortion - although the cells are multiplying rapidly at this stage the cluster of cells has not yet travelled down the tube to implant itself in the uterus. Speed is of the essence.

I agree, it isn't abortion, but not everyone views it in the same way. I believe that Catholic's believe it is abortion, for example. And whilst I understand that sex before marriage also goes against Catholic beliefs, it's a lot easier to 'disregard' than the possibilty of killing an unborn child (in their eyes).

Julie - glad there is an appointment booked. Have you managed to ascertain why she's so reluctant yet? Is she just scared, or does it go against her beliefs? Or is she scared her parents will find out, and it goes against their beliefs?

she is one of the shyest girls i have ever met, she is a very emotional girl and goes red if you so much as look at her. fortunately i am not shy and have no problems going round this evening to talk to her mum so someone else can make her see sense.

I had a friend similar to this when I was her age. Funnily enough, same thing happened. Me and her other female friends dragged her off to the FPC to get the MAP in the end and all was fine.

Does she have some trustworthy female friends who can help?

Unless she has a strong faith, e.g. she is a Roman Catholic which deems this to be wrong...

I remember getting the MAP once in the UK, when I was about 20/21, and the pharmacist was actually very rude and condescending about it, so I can understand how intimidating and scary it must be to a 15/16 year old.
Some pharmacists will not give emergency contraception, for example, because it is against their religion.

I'm sorry, OP but the only truly correct thing to do is to inform the girl's parents. They need to know she is putting herself at risk. If you are worried that he will be in trouble, then it is unlikely to be a problem unless she is under 14 ( a legal problem, I mean).

Please don't be tempted to try to bully this child into taking a path that she isn't truly happy with, however hard it may be for you and your son.
    Good luck.

Someone needs to explain to her what the MAP actually does. It prevents a fertlised egg from implanting in the womb. A pregnancy does not exist until the cells are implanted, therefore the MAP does not end a pregnancy, it prevents one. If it were a form of abortion there wouldn't be the 72 hour time limit.

If her shyness prevents her from going to the clinic, you can always go to a pharmacy and ask for the MAP as if its for yourself. Yes, it means that they won't get an accurate medical history but its unlikely that it would cause her any problems. You or her mum could do a bit of research to be more sure.

If she's too shy to go to the FPC how will she feel going for scans, internal exams, walking around as a visibly pregnant teen and giving birth!

It's so wrong of them to refuse though!

The pharmacist in question had already decided that I must be some silly little sl't as he had already assumed that I wasn't on either the pill or using condoms! In fact, I had been on the pill, but had a vomiting bug, so when I was better we used a condom (whilst we waited for that 7 day period to pass), which (and I could not believe our luck at the time) then split!

I was doing the most sensible thing for us at the time, and still treated like dirt and given a lecture on safe sex!

But this depends on the view of your religion, if you have one. Some religions believe fertilisation to be the point where life begins.

And if that's what she believes then she can make a decision based on that, but she needs to have all the facts. A lot of people are misinformed about the MAP without having all the information.

Yeah, its horrible, I think if pharmacists are going to do that they should have a big sign up saying "I will not prescribe emergency contraception because of my religious views"

Happened to my friend, but her boyfriend was a pharmacist and could tell her which one to go to to get it.

    Poor you, euronorris.
