  • hi every1 have been reading this forum for a couple of weeks now and i need some advise. I renewed my tax credit about two weeks ago on the normal tax credit help line and was told it will be processed and i will get my notice in a couple weeks. I got a letter from the specialist team today so i rang thm and explained that i have already renewed via the main line, the lady told me that some pple are recieving the letters late and although i renewed it its saying that the computer can not except my income for last year which was 5158 as i work part time so therefor i need to send in my p60, has this happened to anyone? plse help. thanx
  • If you haven't received a letter from the Specialist Renewals Team then you should renew as normal, either through the main Tax Credit Helpline or by post. However, if you received a Specialist Renewals letter after you have renewed it would be best to call the number and let them know as the finalisation is inhibited from being completed until the Specialist Renewals Team have completed their action. If anyone has received a Specialist Renewals letter and ignored this and continued to renew through the helpline or by post, their award will not have been finalised and they are likely to be contacted by phone or by letter asking them to complete the Specialist Renewals process.

I received my renewal pack in april then 2 weeks later a specialist letter. I tryed to call specialist line over a couple of days it was either engaged or just ringing, no answer phone to leave messege so i called the main helpline to see what was going on as i was really worried when i got the letter and wanted to get it over with. I spoke to a lady told her that i couldnt get through so she said hold on and spoke to manager and then checked my file. She came back on the phone a told me she was able to do my renewal and started to ask income details then the usual, any changes to report ect. She said ok thats your bit done for this year and i would get a few awards in the post. Rang back couple of days later, still processing so managed to finally get through to specialist team told them what had happend and she put me on hold then asked me all my details again. She then asked me to send some info through the post before she could finish my renewal. But then this week i got an extra payment in new amounts. I really dont understand why if she said she wanted more info sent in. As this happend to anyone else?? Or does anyone have a clue wats going on??

For those of you that have renewed through the main helpline, and who have received a Specialist Renewals letter, the main Tax Credit Helpline cannot process your renewal. This has been communicated to the contact centres on several occasions but it seems to have not gotten through to every adviser. In this instance, where they are unaware of the Specialist Renewals team action, they may say they can take your renewal over the phone and that it's been processed, but it won't have been and will only have been 'stored'. After this, your renewal will drop onto a worklist to be manually reviewed and you may receive a phone call asking you further questions to complete the Specialist Renewals process, if the processing officer cannot verify all details on your award using the systems available. If the officer is unable to contact you by phone they will issue a letter asking for further information.

There have been instances where the renewal has been processed incorrectly. This will not have any impact on your payments but it does mean your renewal will have been fully processed but we still require further information. In this scenario you will receive your award notice, and possibly any lump sum payment due to you but you will also receive a letter asking for further details.

And there are a large number of Tax Credit customers who call the main Tax Credit helpline several times, every day of the year with no good reason, or perhaps to check payments when a maximum of one call a month may be more than sufficient. These claimants are being asked to try and limit their calls to the helpline as they are using up a large resource which could be better used for helping customers who have real and pressing problems. It is still important that everyone continues to report any changes which may affect their Tax Credit award as and when required.

All renewals have until 31st July to be processed, so there is still plenty of time for Tax Credit Office to deal with your renewal. But do please complete your renewal at the earliest opportunity and don't leave it to the last minute if possible.

    Hope this info helps!
  • Thanks to all for help so far. Just one other thing, has anyboby ever been sent a letter from T.C.O. asking them to call a different number to renew T.C. with a specialist advisor. I got this letter and called the number as the letter implies they were going to help me through the confusing process of renewal. Anyway to cut a long story short, I was asked for all the usual income details, no help was given and to boot I had a declaration read to me stating that they may run checks on the info I have given and if anything was false I could be fined upto £3000. I also had to give a verbal declaration that I agrred to this.
Now I feel I'm under suspicion for something. Phoned up thinking I was getting help and advice and came off feeling a bit like a criminal. What's that all about.....anyone!:(
  • Got my renewal in the post and finalisation of last years claim in the post, approx 2 weeks after I got the extra payment.

I did not receive the specialist letter but the Mainline number have confirmed (after I phoned many times to find out what is happening) that my case has dropped on to a worklist to be manually checked. Does that mean I should have received a letter from the specialist team? or could it be for another reason do you know at all please. Thanks

I had them do that to me too and it got me a little worried. I have nothing to hide, but they made me confirm that if I was telling porkies I would be fined 3K....At the end of the call she advised it had been processed and I will get my reward through the post. Not had anything as yet, nor have my payments changed, but this only happend on Wendesday.
Did they advise your claim had been processed at the end of the call?

I phoned the TC to see what was happening with my claim, and they give me a number to call (specialist team I presume) I have never had a letter advising to call them.
