hi all just to let you know i recieved one of these letters also posted earlier on in thread and said i wasnt going to ring them but after keeping up with thread i decided to ring them to renew as didnt want any problems occuring ie provisional payments etc...
i have to say it was really quick and easy he asked more questions about security details then anything else and then said something along the lines of if you provide any incorrect or misleading details you could get a fine upto 3000 pound but we arnt saying that you are and we are here to make sure you give the correct information and then took partners earnings for year and checked against estimate which was about 20 higher and said that everything seemed ok and he would finalise claim it took about 3 mis if that but took about 5 phone calls one after another to get through

Althought having received one of these renewal specialist letters I renewed via the main number, mainly because 8am-5pm is not a convenient time frame for me to be making any phone calls. I rung Monday at 5.30pm and today a payment has gone in to my bank which is in addition to my normal payment that went in on Wednesday as usual. I have not received any notifications/award notices yet so don't know if my renewal has been finalised or whether this payment is due to a provisional award etc. Initially when I phoned to question the renewal specialist letter the normal helpline knew nothing of the letters and advised me to ring the normal helpline and were putting a note on my file to confirm what they had advised me to do.
Thanks for replying i think that the payment you received would be an extra payment other wise it would of been on normal pay day, so it looks like they have done a new award for you. Thats quite quick. I also have problems ringing during those times as i'm in work frm 8 to 5pm mon-fri so will have to try tomorrow see if their open
  • i really no the feeling but if i was you i would just keep phonein the women at the specalist helpline told me it takes 15-20 mins to put ur claim on the comp we all get them rude people & i no it really puts u on a downer but i would phone back till someone can give u answer do they actually relise how much stress they put on familys !!!

sorry I should have said I did also have a extra payment last wednesday, which was a week after renewing, But was before the new provisional award was produced on Friday 23rd as informed on Monday done for my information ??? Not received any paperwork to date.

My only advice would be if you have not renewed yet, but have got one of these letters then do renew through the specialist line as if like me and others if you renew through the helpline it seems the renewal goes on to a worklist with no time frame.

I have been told this system was set up at the last minute. This seems to have caused many worries for many people and therefore increased calls to the helpline. So much for the old saying less haste more speed!!

From what I understand the line can be answered after 5pm, I think up until 7pm as they know people work- i know letter states otherwise. Someone who works within the department posted info on that about a week ago.

    Hi
I have posted this on my own little msg but no one has replied and you good people seem to understand the tax credits system, we havent had one of those letters but was just hoping someone may have some advise

We have just done our renewal through the Main TC helpline and I am abit confused.

    We have 2 children 1 age 3 1 aged 5.
My OH is self employed and in 08/09 he made a loss of £3200. we declared his income of £0 as he made a loss and estimated 09/10s figures to be £3000

This is were I am confused after speaking to the TC Helpline they have told me we can off set his loss against any other income we have mine included as my OH doesnt have any other income it can be off set against mine so I earned £9000 then minus his loss of £3200 makes mine to be £5800 and a jointed income of £5800

He has just done his books for 09/10 and his income is £4000 but he says his loss for 08/09 is deducted from that so his income for 09/10 is now £800 is that correct. The tax credits say we have a possiable underpayment on 09/10 tax credits payments but he didnt say how much. the taxs credits have said they will pay any underpayment when they receive his actually 09/10 figures can we give them this figure even though he hasnt submitted them to the HMCR as he has just completed them in the last 2 days

He has never had a loss before so we are abit baffled how they work it all out
    Anyone got any advise Please
    Clare
