specialist team for tax credits renewal (merged)

I received my renewal pack first then a week later a specalist renewal letter, ive been so worried since getting this letter. So i worked everything out and my income is a 100 pound more than what was estimated last april everything else is right. Any one knw why only some people have had these letter and also which would be the easiest way to renew main helpline or specalist team?

I've been following the thread and it seems that 400,00 people got the letter and apparently it's people who get over £8500 per year in tax credits. These people are the most vulnerable and that's why they've been chosen. This info is from someone who works at the tax credit office.

It's best to ring the specialist line because there's a signal on your file that means even if you give your info to the other line it'll have to be checked by the specialist team, so it'll be quicker to phone them first.

I phoned last week and the lady was very nice. I had my usual payment on Tuesday this week and an extra payment went in on Wednesday too- I've no idea why but I'll wait for the letters before I spend it incase they want it back!

I know the letter was a shock for you, because it was to me too, but there's no need to worry, it's hopefully going to be a more efficient way of renewing that'll stop any mistakes.

I was one of the first people to respond to this thread so thought I should let you know whats happened to me in the end.

I received my renewal pack on friday and called the specialist renewals line to renew my award. Today I called the main number who were able to let me know my award total, monthly payments and changes to the amount due(when baby turns 1).

So I think if you renewed via the specialist line your award gets processed quicker and info is available to the mainline.

Thank you for the info i have been so worried since the letter came, do you know what details they ask for so i can work everything out as i work and claim childcare aswell and i'm single so maybe thats why i was picked out. I had an extra payment last year when i changed my bank details i think the system issues one payment then normal weekly amounts after that. Thanks so much for ur advice

I am a single parent to 3 children with high childcare costs (2 children under 3) so was really worried when I initially got this letter. Thankfully through the support from eveyone who posted on here I was made to feel confident the letter was genuine. They ask the same question the main would ask e.g total annual earnings before tax, hours worked, childcare charges and name of provider, asked me of any changes to my personal info. I wouldn't advise calling unless you have your pack as they ask for the barcode number on the renewal pack, so you could be found out!

I fully intend to renew via the specalist line, I like everyone on here have nothing to hide! It's just annoying getting the enchanged tone constantly.

I to claim for 3 children 2 of my own 5year old and 3 month the other is my 11 year old sister due to ill mum. When i got the letter i worked out everything childcare per week and what i paid for the whole year and My income for full year, i got my renewal pack about a week before the letter came. Do u knw how long it takes to process?

via specialist line my award was on main helpline number 6 days later:T, although I didn't check sooner. My advice would be renew on specialist line, then no worries about it being on worksheet or provisional.

I have posted this on my own little msg but no one has replied and you good people seem to understand the tax credits system, we havent had one of those letters but was just hoping someone may have some advise

We have just done our renewal through the Main TC helpline and I am abit confused.

We have 2 children 1 age 3 1 aged 5.
My OH is self employed and in 08/09 he made a loss of £3200. we declared his income of £0 as he made a loss and estimated 09/10s figures to be £3000

This is were I am confused after speaking to the TC Helpline they have told me we can off set his loss against any other income we have mine included as my OH doesnt have any other income it can be off set against mine so I earned £9000 then minus his loss of £3200 makes mine to be £5800 and a jointed income of £5800

He has just done his books for 09/10 and his income is £4000 but he says his loss for 08/09 is deducted from that so his income for 09/10 is now £800 is that correct. The tax credits say we have a possiable underpayment on 09/10 tax credits payments but he didnt say how much. the taxs credits have said they will pay any underpayment when they receive his actually 09/10 figures can we give them this figure even though he hasnt submitted them to the HMCR as he has just completed them in the last 2 days

He has never had a loss before so we are abit baffled how they work it all out

I am goin 2 ring specalist line aswell. I also received a provisonal reward today that was on the same paper as the specalist letter and it came in brown enverlope and i got my renewal pack b4 the specalist letter. The phone number is diffrent 2 every one else's mine's 08456005310 and its preston so i dont understand why only me has this number. Any1 else same?
