I just cannot understand why the Inland revenue does nt do the renewals the same way the benefits agency did before them and make everyone send in their wage slips, etc and have their childcare paid direct to the childcare provider. This way no-one can make a error on the figure of wages or childcare.Would nt this solve errors and fraud and avoid extra money being used and spent with the Inland revenue on constant investigations. Before the Inland revenue took over the tax credits, the benefits agency before that always insisted on wages slips being sent with the renewal pack. This makes sense to me!!0

I didn't receive 'the letter' but received my declaration through the post this morning. Phoned them up and they were lovely. I am self employed and my hours are all over the place at the moment but they were fantastic and very patient with me. I've got to say i've found the Tax Credits people to be really helpful. It was all done in 2 minutes and now it's sorted. I even asked that if I should receive this 'other letter' do I need to call back as i've got a busy week ahead of me! She said no that it was all processed and I didn't need to worry about anything.
Nice and easy and one thing out of the way. Next step... taxes!! :eek:0 -
I have also had the same letter, my number ends in 5309 - does anyone elses? I phoned the helpline who told me not to call that number and to call the helpline as normal. I phoned the number on my letter this morning just to see who answered. They took no details from me but just said to call them when I get my renewals pack. She said that if I wanted I could apply by post or to the helpline it really didn't matter, it was just a new thing that they had. Both people were helpful.0

Youre not the only person who cant get through as i cant either! Been trying for a few days since receiving the pack and either engaged or rings out. Just going to call the normal number as cant be bothered trying any longer"The darkness has no answers"0 -
I received my renewal pack today. I got in from work and phoned the main help line because I could not put my hands on the letter I had received. The woman I got through to was quite "off" to say the least (maybe it was near the end of her shift). I much didn't care for her tone. She went through security, did not ask me to create a password like some on here have mentioned. She never mentioned she could not take my details or the letter and I never mentioned the letter either. Like I say she was rather "off" with her attitude, asked me if I had read through my Review - I told her I had glanced through it, she asked me if I had received my P60 I replied no but as my wages are an accumlative figure on my wage slips my month 12 wage slip holds the same details as my P60. Again she asked me if I had read through my Review. She then asked me if my income would be the same for the coming year (unless I receive a pay rise then it will was my answer), she asked me if there would be anymore changes, I told her my eldest child would finish her education in June, she told me should could not record that change until 30 days beforehand!!! She did not ask me to confirm any of my child care details - then she took me through my annual declaration. She then finished by saying I may get my awards noticed through the post or I may get a letter requesting more details????? I questioned this, she responded by saying if anymore information is needed then I will receive a letter. Has anyone else experienced this??? Does this mean I have renewed or not??????? Wish I had left it til just before the deadline (July) now.0

Just phoned normal tax credit helpline back - spoke to a lovely woman - who did do a security check and asked me to set up 2 passwords - one I will remember the other one there aint a prayer but anyway... I explained I had phoned a little earlier to renew and queried the fact I was told I may get an award notice or I may get a letter. The lady checked, said my renewal had definately gone through, I asked if it that meant it had been processed or gone to another department or if it was on a list. She said it will get processed over night and that it had definately gone through. I explained about people getting letters and that I was a bit bothered when I had come off the phone earlier - she told me not to worry and that it had gone through definately and that I will receive several award notices, one for last year finalising everything and then one for this year. I have no reason to doubt her, I will just have to wait on my renewal notices arriving in the post I think. Has anyone else had a similar experience to this????0

Hi,
I posted earlier in this thread, as I said I have renewed the claim and contacted the specialist helpline also who said it was all on the system to be processed. Today I phoned to check all ok and was told that a new provisional award was produced on Friday, for this year but as to date the award to finalise 09/10 was still waiting to be processed. I asked why a provisional had been issused if they had not finalised last year, and was told that it was for my information, But the payments may change again when it is finalised and there is no time scale for how long it will take to complete. The man I spoke to said that I just have to wait until its done. I did say that I was told I would recieve the final and provisional awards approximately two weeks after renewal, but again he said "we can not give a time scale". This goes against what the specialist team told me, as they said if awards not received then to ring back to ensure all gone through. Now I am totally at a loss as whether to ring back at the end of the week or is this going to go on indefinately? all they say is everything is on the system.
Any idea on if this is normal? has anyone thats gone through this system had their award notices yet?0 -
Well....I phoned the number on the letter on Friday...the man taking my call seemed very efficient...we shall wait and see what happens!0

Pinkpig that's exactly what happened to me today. I renewed my figures last week. I phoned today to see if it had gone through and whether they could give me the figures over the phone (for budgeting purposes...yes I'm a control freak and couldn't wait lol!!) and she asked me to set up two passwords. I think as can be seen from this thread that a lot of people are worried about this special tax credit department etc.
She went through the security (which does take an age!!) and then she asked to set up the passwords. She told me that the tax credit peeps wouldn't ever contact me and ask me for these details etc. I would only be asked them if I called HMRC not the other way around. I guess a lot of people are worried about fraudulent letters/emails/calls and perhaps HMRC are setting this new password system up to 1. speed up the process (less time wasted so they can answer more calls) and 2. take on board peoples fears by putting this system in place.
I've spoken to a couple of people at HMRC over the last week or so, one guy clearly a bit stressed probably from a previous call, but all of them were very good and extremely patient and helpful!!
