I havent read this whole thread properly,as it is a bit long winded :p All the renewal packs are in the process of being sent out even as I type I should imagine..so all claimants awards will be finalized once all renewal packs have been sent back to HMRC if you are using snail mail. I didn't have any problems with my own renewal last year.

I actually did mine over the phone..much quicker, but you can only to ring up to renew once you have received the renewal pack..(your pack will have a code on it which you quote on the phone)

The specialist team are really nothing to worry about, not an experiment as such, they are allocated there as extra staff to help deal with all the renewals. They ask you about your changes in the previous tax year and if you had many changes, and all they do is check the info from last year and ask you if this years the same. They then amend your award accordingly.
I asked for fork 'andles(handles for forks) not four candles! God Bless The Two Ronnies :T

The 'specialist team' is linked to the 'Investigation Team'

There are many reasons why they get involved, information received, doubt if someone says they are single but may be in a couple relationship etc.

The choice at the moment is the so call 'hobby self employed'. There are 1'000's of claimants that purport to be self employed, running a bone fide business for at least 30 hours a week. Many of these are the 'ebayers' the 'house parties' etc.

The scam has become so big that they have had to do something about it.

Most if not all of these claimants see doing this as a 'legitimate' way of increasing the WTC payments.

They are in for a shock. It is called fraud and the word is that HMRC will take action if and when these 'business owners' are found out.

Peole who have rung the specialist team have not, routinely been asked for anymore info or evidence to support their claim and seem to have been asked the same questions as those ringing the
    "standard line".
If claimants really are being investigated for fraud I can assure youn that compliance would be requesting everything from birth certificates to bank statements

They are a lot more subtle than that and we will see what we will see!!

I received one of these letters yesterday, asking me to provide a copy of the contract I have with my child's nursery and receipts of payments made.

I've not had chance to have a look through all of this thread yet, at 68 pages it's going to take me a while!

The letter at first glance does seem to be accusing us of claiming something we shouldn't have, but we know we have always given them the correct information, so have nothing to hide.

I do have to ask though - they know which nursery my daughter is at as we gave them the nursery's registration number when we first started claiming, so why can't they ask the nursery direct instead of asking me to provide the information?

Because it is you that is making the claim!

Hi all, just a quick question. Ive received a notice to tell HMRC a load of information "for the period 1 January 2011 to 19 April 2011".
If i've understood correctly, they only want information about my business between these dates? Not the whole tax year?

I got my previous question answered but have a new one. :)

Does anyone know if im within my rights to requested all communication in writing with tax credits compliance rather than having to provide a telephone number?

Because the claim/contract is between HMRC and you, not between the nursery and HMRC. It's up to you to prove to them that you are paying what you say you are to whom you've said.

The amount of people I've heard recently talking about forgetting to update this, meant to tell them that, didn't think it was important to tell them such-and-such is unreal. I can't imagine how much it must be multiplied over the whole country! A lot of people seem to be thinking it's 'ridiculous' that they are now checking childcare amounts (and attendance) before paying out when in reality it should always have been that way!

One Mum I know is kicking off big style because she was claiming for child 1. Child 1 started school and Child 2 took his place at the childminder. As she was paying the same amount to the same childcare provider she didn't bother telling HMRC. She's now gobsmacked that they have a problem with her claiming childcare for a child who is at school!
