  • This is correct, although Tax Credit Office may well still issue letters asking for information if they are unable to verify any of the details. This could be due to something as simple as the systems being unavailable when your case is reviewed.

We have renewed had our finalisation award through for 09/10 weeks ago now and yesterday we received a letter asking for some more information regarding my work.
The letter had a form attached for me to fill in asking if I still work for my current employer, what is their Paye ref number ( and to ask my employer to update their details with HMRC), when did I change hours last yr.

I phoned them straight away the woman was pretty helpful she took all my details which as she said was correct to what they had, she spoke to someone else and it turned out last yr I went back to hrly paid from monthly salary and my payroll number changed due to the way our payroll works so they couldnt locate me working for my employer who I have worked for the last 10yrs anyway she said she had updated it and all was fine

So it can be as simple as some missing info as to why they need more info:)

If you have not yet renewed or have received a Specialist Renewals team letter and have renewed by post or via the main Tax Credit helpline then I would still recommend you contact the Specialist team to complete your renewal as there is no guarantee that all the details on your Tax Credit award are able to be verified using the systems available.

Also if there is a discrepancy between the information held on the award and the available systems then the award will be changed first to match the information held and then a letter sent to you to inform you of any changes, and this may work out to be not in your favour.
please can you help me, i rung tax credit helpline back in april to change my childcare provider, i then received a provisional award with the chilcare amount showing same as before, but id told them it had changed.i still need to give my p60 details as i have not renewed yet,do you knw why this is?

This has happened to me too. But the childcare element has hugely gone down on mine, so I am thinking this is something to do with the 4 weeks that they still pay at higher rate.

I tell you what I found on the child care side of things - I was asked to provide a receipt which I did, turns out I now have an over payment - this is all because I don't use child care during school holidays (clearly as the child care I use is part of the school by way of a kids club before and after school) - yet on all the small print the only time you need to contact the TCO is when your child care changes for 4 weeks in a row or stops - What the hell is that all about???? The TCO seems to average the costs out over a 52 week period but be warned if you too use a school for childcare the school year is only 39 weeks!!!!!

My child will be attending a nursery school via childcare payments. Do I have to notify them of half terms and term breaks etc so I don't get paid when I don't need to??

Mine says tell TC if your childcare costs go up or down by £10 in a week. It makes sense to me that if they are not going in school holidays then surely you aren't paying so wouldn't be claiming for that period?

If you read the back of your award notice is actually states if it reduces by less than £10 a week for more than 4 weeks in a row - hence why therefore one would assume that this does not take into account the school holidays as these are only for 1 or 2 weeks with the exception of summer when it is 5. One would also have assumed that when the tax credits put through my child care when I gave them all the information requested that they would have realised school kids club - school term time only and know the child care would only be paid for 39 weeks!
