I hope that next year they sort out the way they let people know about the Specialist team properly & not just by sending a dodgy looking letter & making sure ALL staff know what the hell is going on as this whole process has been very confusing.

I have received a provisional award. So how long before we receive the final one?

Thanks, did you have to speak to them before you got the final or did it just show up?

Okay thank you. I don't understand why they send a provisional first!! What's that all about, they never used to do that.

Hi TCH - can i just check my understanding of this - they will for example check you have the right children on your claim, how much you earned etc, via the channels you mentioned?

This is correct, although Tax Credit Office may well still issue letters asking for information if they are unable to verify any of the details. This could be due to something as simple as the systems being unavailable when your case is reviewed.

tch does that mean that you should not call specialist team?

If you have not yet renewed or have received a Specialist Renewals team letter and have renewed by post or via the main Tax Credit helpline then I would still recommend you contact the Specialist team to complete your renewal as there is no guarantee that all the details on your Tax Credit award are able to be verified using the systems available.

Also if there is a discrepancy between the information held on the award and the available systems then the award will be changed first to match the information held and then a letter sent to you to inform you of any changes, and this may work out to be not in your favour.

Thank you for your help. So won't they need to contact my childcare provider (which 2009-2010 was a nursery and is now just an afterschool club 2 days a week)

Specilaist Renewals team may well contact your ChildCare provider if your costs seem high depending on your circumstances. This is something Tax Credit Office are doing much more routinely now as ChildCare costs have such a wide range.
