Yes! You continue to accrue annual leave. I will have AL accrued when I go back so am taking almost a whole month off after my mat leave finishes. Apparently, if the rule is usually "use it or lose it" this does NOT apply to Mat leave so they have to let you take it. Also, check for any bank hols that fall during your mat leave as you are entitled to claim these on top - I think I get an extra 3 that fall while I'm on OML.
If your work is being arsey speak to ACAS about it for free.Bellymonkey due 25/09/10 :j0 -
Tinks you will still accrue your holiday as normal whilst you are on maternity leave. You really need to speak to your HR as some companies prefer you to take it before some insist you wait until after maternity leave. Your 2011 allowence will come into force in 2011 so will accrue whilst you are on maternity leave do you want an entire 52weeks as maternity leave or were you hopeing to use your holiday to make up some of the 52wks.
Eww i hate those baby reborns they are so creepy and they cost an absolute fortune some ive seen on ebay have sold for £500.:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -
Be carefull with the bank holidays they only have to give them to you if your annual allowence is less than 28days if not they dont have to include them when calculating so my company for example we get 25days bookable plus bank holidays so they have had to allow me the extra 3 days annual leave to account for the short fall :-)
Edit: just checked government web site and the use it or lose it rule can still apply whilst on maternity leave most companies wont enforce it though but it is worth checking so you dont loose out. See link above:jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0 -

Thanks Ladies for the advice :A
Thanks my normal working week is Monday Wednesday & Thursday.
I get 15 days leave eg 5 weeks a year.
I have asked my boss he said he will speak to the partners about how they want me to take it etc etc. They have never had a pregnancy in the office!!!!! and we don't have a HR deptIf you can think it........it will happen0 -
Should be worked out on a pro rata basis then which it looks like they have done. Make sure you get anything they tell you in writing as well once an agreement is in place it prevents misunderstanding later on :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Hi Quick question!
I know that I will soon need to do a letter to formally announce my pregnancy & my intended Maternity Leave Start Date.
Just wanted to Know what happens about my holiday for the period Jan 11 to Dec 11 from the notes in the pack as far as I can tell I am still entitled to my annual leave for next year and now sure how it would work???
For the record I am hoping to be able to stay until the near end of November if I possible can, as I would much rather have time off when baby arrives.
Hope this is ok

Pigpen, if you know how carp they are then you should just be ringing the maternity unit direct so someone will get sent out. It's not acceptable!Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession

Pigpen: hope your ok and get things sorted, we are all very worried about you *hugs*
Smartie: Sorry to hear your feeling carp, but pleased you managed to get the Surestart! I cant apply for it until the baby is born I so hope I can get it then!!
Hope everyone else is feeling ok, I am feeling huge. Baby is getting so big and totally squashing all my internal organs and my rib cage, I feel so achey and cant walk/ stand for longon a more positive note my OH came into work to see me and sorted out some computer problems I was having, was nice to have him here for a couple of hours
also my sis bought in an online Next order of some sale bits she ordered for us; a velour sleepsuit, a little dog jumper and an 'i love mummy' romper. All v cute, apparently theres couple more bits to come!
I'm refusing to look at the M&S sale.. this is my last proper wage this month so I am trying to be careful! All we need for the baby is a nappy bin and I think that'll do for now!!0 -
Annual Leave/ Bank Hols. I am taking this year's annual leave that I have left (10 days, keeping an odd one for the next couple of weeks in case i need it) immediately before Mat leave, and then all the bank hols are going to be taken at the end - that's what HR advised me to do. I will get 11 bank hols & extra statutory/ concessionary days to take.
I ate too much for lunch and after not eating for so long I now feel carp. Am just going to do the minimum work I can manage until 4 and then collapse I think!
pigpen - I haven't said anything as I know you know what we think but do take care.Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0
