Red Rose, if you work full time, you are legally entitled to 28 days leave (including bank holidays, unless your employer offers enhanced entitlement)

This isn't quite correct - the statutory minimum for holiday entitlement is 28 days - this does not have to include bank holidays.

You employer may offer 20 days plus 8 BH's - this is legal.

They may offer 28 days not including BH's - this is also legal.

You may also be lucky and get more than the statutory minimum.

red do you work part time? i'm just wondering why you only get 20 days holiday as with bank holidays that only equates to 25 days when statatory holiday is 28days. If you work part time and you can only carry 5 days over they need to let you take the extra two days before you go on maternity leave they can only refuse you if they have a very good valid business reason not to do so Acas can help you more on that one there is a piece of legislation about works forcing you into a situation where you cant take your holidays.

    Hello all

glad tommorow is my last day, going for lunch with the few people who are still working as school hols here.

went to marks and spencer on way home, sale wasnt that great got twin pack rompers and little blue cardigan was £8 in total as had a 20% off loyalty voucher from credit card. Did look online this morning and see few more bits but not in store. Also got some food whilst in there few deals on pasta sauce 1/2 price (as are curry sauce, jam, tinned tuna), beetroot 1/2 price, chilli dipping sauce 1/2 price and some outdoor bred pork loins steaks 2 packs for £5 (lots on 2 for £5 offer) - got 2 largest packs both costing £4.50 each.

Annoying thing when got to retail park man starts pulling out of space so i give him plenty of room as estate car and indicate for space, cheeky woman comes round corner and straight in it before hes even pulled away - whilst I am giving him room to move - so I toot her as she is straightening up and indicate to her I was waiting for space and she just mouths hard luck at me and parks there, eventually found another space - park nice and neat right in middle, come out and some idiot has parked next to me at an angle that I have to squish into care not easy with bump and do what felt like a 90 point turn to get out of space.

With regards to annual leave and mat leave I have had to use mine before I finish as not due back to new finacial year and next lot of annual leave starts, I get alot of annual leave if inc bank hols and the rule is can roll over one week worth to next year so eventually got it agreed I could roll over 1wk to be tagged on end of maternity leave at end of may 2011 (i am taking 39wks) and 2 days roll over onto next years annual leave.

I have taken 4wks starting mon prior to mat leave starting as would have wanted to finish around 35-36wks anyway so am finishing at 34wks. I also started taking mondays off as annual leave a month ago to make shorter weeks and other than this week havent work a full week for a few months with taking annual leave or it being a bank hol!!

i have loads to catch up on:eek:

i have discovered google is not a good tool for a pregnant hypochondriac like me!! my feet are swollen and ive developed cankles, but i was googling as i keep getting this awful pain right at top of bump under ribs like someone is twisting a knife in, i thought it was really bad heartburn or maybe a foot? but it says abdominal pain can be a sympton of pre-eclampsia. i was just wondring if anyone has had it and if they had the same pain as ive described??

**off to read back and catch up

fuzz - there are some good reusable offers on ebay at the moment...I just don't need any more nappies (need to keep telling myself that!)

BigBird there's a job which is possibly in the pipeline for me which would be full time but working from home...I was thinking the same thing in terms of not getting full time childcare...obviously I haven't got the job and there's no guarantee that the people will even get the funding for it, esp with the new government cutting everything so a bit different to you but still. I think I would probably go for the 3 days childcare thing or maybe childcare in the mornings, like 8-2 or something.

  • Re annual leave
    I get 23 days & 12.5 bank holidays
I'm allowed to carry over 2010's 23 days & 2011's 23 days with the agreement that I take the majority of these before I go back to work
the policy re bank holidays has changed since I had my son, I now get paid for bank holidays instead of accruing them
so I guess every employer I'd different, I would definetly check out with cab etc If you think your getting a raw deal
Busy mum of 3, so if my posts don't make sense or ask a silly question be patient:rotfl:

Thank you all for advice regarding annual leave. I phoned ACAS up and have been told I am entitled to 28 days (including bank holidays). For the remainding financial year, I have 3 more bank holidays to take (xmas day, boxing day and new years) which my boss has not accounted for. ACAS said I can either take these before or after, but it has to be one or the other.

I'm worried about looking like a trouble maker but I do feel like I'm getting a raw deal. Theoretically, I have taken 8 already and am taking another 5 (arranged) before I go on mat leave, that leaves me with 7 days + 3 days for bank holiday, not the 5 I was told.

Have I got this right? Am going to email my boss tonight once I've double checked my contract and then catch up with him tomorrow.
