kitkat - it's well out of order. i hope you're not expected to cook tonight too?
Been to mw, new one today though she was nice. She couldn't do bloods though as can't get them back to the hosp in time so I have to go to hosp next week for them, boo. She wants me to go mon/tues as agrees I am prob anaemic. Baby is not breech at the moment, bum is under my ribs as I suspected!
Got back and had a cool shower, magnum and am in my nighty nowFriend sent me a film with a pg woman in it which is apparently quirky so we may watch that later.
Oooh and I bought 3 nappies online from a forum...very silly as we have loads already, just wanted to try a few types!Mum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
KK def need to say something, maybe he doesn't realise how much it is stressing you out??
Rach hope blood tests go OK, bit annoying you have to go to the hosp.
Well looks like my urine infection hasn't cleared up as still testing positive for protein and I feel like I'm constantly in need of a wee.
Is soooo hot here I can't cope and tmi feel like I'm sweating buckets and even sweated in the crotch area, think may have to get some panty liners as can't do with wet knickers (and maybe trousers!!) that look like I've wet myself.Thomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces

If there is protein it is more likely to be a kidney infection.. protein particles are usually too big to get through the filtration system but when you have an infection they can get through.
If you have had 3-4 days of antibiotics and they haven't worked go back to docs and moan.. when they got the results back they will have been told which AB's work on this specific infection.. make sure they check!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -

I'm diabetic, so have had a couple of ante-natal classes now where the midwives have told us all about the "best" ways to give birth, minimise discomfort in labour etc - but each time said "this doesn't apply to you" to me. So today I sat down with the diabetes/ante-natal people I see at the hospital and asked if I have any birth options at all...
They've basically told me that, due to the baby likely to be big, I will need to have either induction at 38 weeks or a c-section. For both I'm going to be on 2 drips (glucose and insulin), plus an epidural (for c-section at least). I hate needles, but have had to learn to deal with them during pregnancy, but the thought of having so many, plus potentially major surgery (c-section), not to mention the worry of the baby being poorly/taken straight into special care is making me stress out in a big way. I honestly think that if I'd known about all this beforehand I might have thought twice about getting pregnant in the first place...
Can anyone tell me anything positive about c-sections etc to help me deal with this?
I was gestational diabetic with Amber (number 3, shes now 11 months).
With DS2 I had an em c section, lots of problems that meant that I should haven't had any more, but Amber was a surprise. I was terrified of having another C section and was determined to be induced (I was induced with DS1).
Anyway, I got to 36 weeks and it was decided she had to come out the following week due to my GD and a lot of other things cos I like to be complicated. An induction carried more risk for baby and I than the elective, so I agreed to it.
I was scheduled for 9am on the 6th August last year. Given the first slot because I was so nervous and allowed to stay at home the night before. On the 4th and 5th I was given steroids just incase, I went up to day care for these. Bad thing was that they gave me horrific heartburn and acid reflux. I had steroids with the boys and that didn't happen. The night before you take an antacid and cant eat or drink from such and such a time. Another antacid in the morning. Shower and a shave and we set off.
Got to the hospital, got measured for your sexy stockings, got changed and walked down to the theatres. Once there I met everyone and was told all about my spinal block. They were very nice to me after my consultant (who was with me the whole time and did the section) told them about last time.
DH had to get changed and wait while they got me ready. Had a drip in my left hand, I'm used to them going in, it was the only way they could get blood in the last few weeks. The spinal is uncomfortable because you have to curl up as tight as you can, but it's not painful exactly. You feel popping in your spine.
Lay back with your arms out, crucifixion style. Bit of tilting so the fluid of the spinal block can get everywhere its needed. Some poking at your feet with a pen, some cold spray till they are sure you are completely covered and your partner is brought in.
The section wasn't the nicest feeling in the world, you do feel tugging and pulling. I was so scared that I could speak, but the nurses and everyone kept me amused with their banter, which was great.
Amber was lifted out above the screen so I could see her (an amazing experience for me as she screamed, DS1 was resuscitated at birth and for DS2 I was asleep), I may have started crying then. She was wrapped up and handed to DH to hold. They did ask if I wanted her on my chest but I was shaking too much (from the spinal as well as me being so on edge). The rest of it didn't matter because I was looking at my gorgeous daughter. There was a lot of tugging, felt like they were trying to pull out my lungs, as they got the placenta out and they had to look for my missing coil and check out a few things while in there. But, it didn't really matter, my baby was right next to my head.
Into recovery, held my baby girl, she took her first breast feed there. Morphine kicked in and I slept on and off, but I have a low pulse rate and when I fell asleep it would drop lower and the machines said I was dead so the alarms would wake me up lol! Toast, tea, more cuddles another feed and taken to my room. Lunch, cuddles, sleeps, feeds (I fed her as often as I could because I knew it would help with her blood sugar levels). Dinner, cuddles, sleeps, feeds. Catheter came out at 11pm, had a shower, felt great after the shower. Up and dressed for 8am the next morning ready for breakfast, I was seriously starving.
After breakfast they tested her sugars and they were a bit low, so I requested a formula feed for her. First nurse insisted on a cup, second asked me how I wanted her fed, I said I wasn't bothered, just get the milk into her now. So she was bottle fed. Glucose kept dropping despite the 2 formula feeds so she had to be taken to SCBU.
She was given a glucose drip, I expressed for her, breast fed her and also demanded formula top ups till I could express enough milk for her top ups.
The one tip I will give you if you breast feed is do not let them convince you that they have to go 4 hours. I was ready to feed her after 3 hours, but they wanted to push it to 4. This meant that she was on that bloody drip for a week. When they eventually let me feed her when my boobs wanted to, she was off the drip in 12 hours. I also got mastitis because they were telling me to only pump for 20mins, not enough to empty my breasts.
The week she was in SCBU was hard because it was such a long walk from my room, but I managed it. Do NOT miss any painkillers, make sure you know when they come round with them and make sure you are there to get them. I managed to miss 1 volterol and was in agony. Rest of the time I was ok. Sore, but fully able to get in and out of bed, bend, breast feed, walk, have a coffee at the tea room etc.
Got home after 8 days and a strop. Driving 2 weeks after the C section. I recovered very quickly.
Feel free to ask me any questions, I like to ramble0 -

Thanks PP, actually doc I spoke with over the phone actually seem to know what he was doing (shock I know!!) as he did say he would try me with a course of AB's but may have to go onto another if they didn't work. First time I went got a locum who wanted to prescribe me AB's that didn't have in this country, then some that said in leaflet DO NOT USE IF PREGNANT :eek:Thomas born 28/08/2010 weighing 5lbs and 4ounces, small but perfectly formed :j:j Now weighs 19lbs and 5 ounces

Thanks everyone for your advise
I have felt like a woman posessed allday at work so wasn't sure whether it was just me exaggerating. I've just washed and polished my car, not the best idea at 35 weeks prego but it was filthy and it looks so shiny now
I'll have great joy telling OHs family tomorrow how I did it by myself as I had waited 2 days for him to do it. I'm not cooking tonight, he's out ATM so I'll tell him I'm too nackered when he comes in. What is wrong with men these days?!
I so feel like doing a bit of online shoppingit's the best therapy!

I've been on various AB's during this pregnancy and all of them have said don't use if pregnant... in fact all medication I'm on says don't take in pregnancy!! I think it's more a precautionary measure - just like most products in Boots for example say "consult doctor if pregnant".
Kitkat - don't get me started on men and tidying up/dishes etc!! Since being PG I've asked DS to help more with such things as well - so that's 2 men's "can't be bothered" approach to housework I have to deal with! I'm sure I'm the only person who can possibly put things away in kitchen, put recycling in bin etc etc. I hate to think what the house would look like if I was in hospital for a while!
Dummies - smarties usual approach to child rearing... LOVE THEM!!!:D DS had one. It fell down the loo when he was 2 nearing 3 years old and that was it - dummy no more!:rotfl:I can't stand seeing kids older than 3 with them but I think they're a godsend for babies. I have bought a few for this monster;)
Oh and I had a letter about antenatal classes and luckily they're on Mon mornings when DH has the day off:jBLOWINGBUBBLES:kisses2: SMARTIE120 -
