Have any of you ladies who couldnt do parent craft considered employing a doula? They can be invaluable sources of information before, during and after the birth and as far as i can see from research i have done you can get one to work with you for around £150 if they are still training. Dont be put off by them being in training either the majority have children of thier own and have also done many courses or have worked as health professionals previously. The ones i looked at had been midwives and had turned their backs on the system due to not feeling like they were involved enough with the care of the mother giving birth :-) x

Cause I suffer badly with my asthma, been in n out of hospital all my life it's like a 2nd home (that I hate going to!) i also react badly to some treatments and just stop breathing! Oh and something to do with me having a blood transfusion, my local hosp wudnt touch me! I'm just hoping my health doesn't become an issue although the hot weather and baby pushing up towards my rib cage is causing lots of problems.

Just done my 1st load of baby washing! Lots of cute little white bits hanging on the line!

"Doula" (pronounced "doola") is a Greek word meaning "woman servant or caregiver". It now refers to an experienced woman who offers emotional and practical support to a woman (or couple) before, during and after childbirth. A doula believes in “mothering the mother” - enabling a woman to have the most satisfying and empowered time that she can during pregnancy, birth and the early days as a new mum. This type of support also helps the whole family to relax and enjoy the experience.

There you go kitkat thats the best description i can find. She isnt there to help you clinically thats obviously the midwifes role but she can be there to support you in your decissions and make sure your wishes are communicated in the best way. Obviously they dont take over the role your OH has she is there for you both and will also help him to know how to help you :-)

I was going to have one but with my OH who was fab with the last one and a personal friend who is a midwife going to be present i thought it would get a bit overcrowded :-)

    That'd do it then ;)

Look at it this way, you are getting top notch treatment and that cant be sniffed at!

I am having my 20 week scan done by the Dr and not the radiographer due to DD2's complications and I only see this as a good thing :D

Moneysaver - Im sure people don't mean what they say but i wish that they would think how hurtful their comments are before speaking.

A child is a gift regardless of it being male or female

Someone once said to me "Four boys how awful". I was too shocked too comment

It would be nice if they did think before they spoke. Gosh thats a horrible thing to say. To me a baby is percious (sp) wether the baby is a boy or girl. Me and dh have been shopping today and bought some really cute baby boy clothes. We also bought him a little colourful kind of monster teddy frim mama and papas and it was half price.
Moneysaver...thats a terrible thing to say even in jest. I know that my folx would prefer a grandaughter but they will be sooooo happy whatever pops out!

    xx

Thankyou hun. I think it hurts as well because i have always felt like second best to my mum. Like she didn't really want me, even through she planned me. I was told i was an accident, but then my dad told me that my mum planned me so she could get away from home, and that he then had to marry her. She was 18 when she got pregnant with me.

Hi love yes as far as i aware you would be constantly monitored, i certainly was, so would have to stay on bed, however, i could be wrong worth checking with the midwife.
As i said they shouldn't even think about inducing you during a v-bac as it causes such strong, quick contractions you are more likely to suffer a ruptured womb.
I think you may be underestimating the trauma that a natural birth can inflict on your body, not always but certainly sometimes, my sister seemed in a lot more pain and discomfort for a lot longer after her 'natural' birth as i did with my c-section.
Also recovery time generally reduces with each c-section.
When i had my second i was up and about after a few hours without the need for any painkillers.

At the end of the day it always comes down to your choice, after being very disappointed not having delivered naturally with the first i convinced myself i would be more of a mum if i delivered naturally.

Of course thats rubbish, is a c-section much different to the woman who has an epidural and feels nothing during the birth or a woman who has a forceps delivery?

Why should a successful birth be judged on pain or effort? A successful birth is a healthy baby and a happy mum.

I think there is too much running down of c-sections, we are constantly told there are TOO many c-sections, that women who have an elective are somehow too posh to push which go toward perpetuating the myth that 'real' mums push babies out.

    Sorry for the rant lol!!!!:eek::D

Thankyou very much for your help. It helps been able to talk to someone who has been through c sections. I think that the best thing to do would be to stick with having a c section. My dh says that he wants whats ever best for me and baby.

I like your scan pic and ring tag.

Thankyou Kitkat. I agree, the baby will be ours and it will be us who brings him up. I won't be asking my mum to help with baby as in the past when i have asked her for any help, the answer has been mainly no. If she wants to spend time with him or take him out then she can. She hardly takes my nieces anywhere. She always sees them at their house.

well just got back online, was too nice a day up north to spend it on the internet.....

I got a bit over heated in the sun at one point, so came in for a lay down on the sofa, which is leather was so nice and cool, and carried on reading. Went back outside after the sun has passed over and it was still really nice and hot to sit out in, just without the glaring sun....

Couldnt find any sunglasses either which didnt help....

Then went out ad bought ice creams LOL All I could think of was Hot Fuzz - "Cornetto".....

Anyway.....get to start upping my EPO's to 3 a day this week and then 4 a day as of next.....got a lovely email from mothercare reminding me that I could give birth now, thanks for the permission Mothercare LOL

Made some rice salad for dinner but right now im eating a breakaway and a glass of tonic water.....
