morning all - I slept in the spare room last night as I couldn't get comfy and kept waking dh up every time he dropped off. I slept much better actually so worked all round!! Hopefully he'll now be asleep for a while as I love Saturday mornings to myself :D

in terms of nappies - no one should feel guilty about using disposables or reusables...it's about finding what works for you. For me the motivation is financial but also environmental - my job is sustainable transport and i'd like to try and be as green as possible at home too (don't do all that well!). But the bottom line is I'm tight!! We are trying really hard to budget so that during my mat leave we can make ends meet and not eat into our house deposit savings, and all these little things will hopefully help!

My councillor is following up with the officers who never responded to my email about why they are the only London borough not to run any kind of nappy cashback scheme. They'll have to respond now at least!!

The point i am trying to make without pregnant woman ranting lol is that it is time c-sections stopped being vilified and came out into the open as something that happens to a lot of women and is just another birthing experience.
Oh and i was up and about within 3 hrs virtually no pain and feeling great!!!
well said. I have a fear of natural birth mainly because my mum had to have us both by c-section due to having too small a pelvis or flat or something, and then my sister had an emergency one and if the hospital had not been so obsessed with her having a natural birth and given her a section when things were clearly not right she would've have been so ill. But I will see what happens, every woman is different.
Rach what a meany us girls always love sparkly stuff you never know he may surprise you. your engagement ring sound gorgeous by the way :-)
lol nah he won't, that's not him at all!

    here's my ring...if this works!

Pukkamom although i agree with you in principle is still think it is wrong to do it in the name of vanity if a women has a genuine fobia then so be it. General fears can be overcome with the right support and i do believe a positive outlook is the key to a good natural birth It is a sign of the society we live in that birth is viewed as a painfull horrible thing that we must endure and it is the western culture that promotes this incorrect way of thinking. Yes labour hurts but it doesnt have to be awful it can be a wonderful thing that women can actually enjoy and feel good about if the right attitude is adopted from the start. You yourself have said your second was a lot better why? Because you were informed you knew what was happening the lights were low voices werent raised and you could stay relaxed and calm its the same with natural birth you can't do it in a godlfish bowl with people barking instructions at you its like trying to do a number two with a room full of people watching.

My first was horrendous due to me being frightened and panicked as no one ever tells you what is actually going to happen things were taken out of my hands in the labour ward and i felt completely out of control and useless. My second was alot better although stressfull which made it harder. The third was very easy as i knew i was in control of what happened and if i didnt agree with what the midwives or obs said i had my reasonings in place to tell them why and what i wanted to happen.

Rach if you have a fear then discuss it with your midwife tell her why your scared and i'm sure she will reasure you. Get all of the information you can on your mothers situation so you can recognise if it starts happening to you and you can make informed decissions and tell them what you want to happen and why. As i said above you have to feel in control of the situation or you will be fighting a loosing battle :-)

Right i'm getting off my soapbox now :-D

Morning all, I feel so tired. Kept getting up all night as i was too hot and kept needing the loo!

Congrats on team blue Suzy and Money! Think my OH mum will be disappointed if we have a boy (which I am sure we're having) but I couldn't care anyway, as I keep telling her it's our baby not her problem, would rather she kept out of the babys upbringing anyway! There are positives to having either a boy or girl, so as long as they are healthy WHO CARES?!?
Lovely ring photos ladies, you have made me feel very jealous, I don't even have an engagement ring! I hav hinted to OH about an eternity ring but didn't get much responce!

I get annoyed about this biased opinion with C sections, my mum had 2 as she was very ill and nearly died in both her labours. Odd people comment she was too lazy to push and I think this is a load of carp, both methods of birth are an amazing and difficult experience for a woman and people should feel proud of the mother for birthing either way. I have to admit I wana avoid a section as my last operation I reacted badly and it's scared me since of operations. But I'm very scared about a natural birth, kinda hoping they invent a third painless method before August!

    Morning my fellow whale-lies :)

Sun is out, shining like a beauty, Im going to sit out in the yarden and read my booky with the dog i think today.
For some reason ended up being really stressed last night, had a hysterical crying fit and generally all round hormonal person, woke up this morning, still feel a bit like it but determined to stick a face on it....

Convent - Hun its not so much that Im prepared, its more boredom. I havent worked through whole pregnancy so am literally counting down the days.... I think if i had worked it would have been different.....

37 weeks today WOOWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Now get out baby! LOL

re births - i dont care as long as he gets out.....

I just think there is an extremely lack of information given to you anyway in the country, for either birth. E.G I didnt go to the 4 parentcraft classes I was invited to attend because I couldnt get there, and D works shifts.
Its like they actually rely on those classes to give out the information. When I told her on my last visit I hadnt been, she told me to read the pregnancy book, which if that is anything to go by, I've been seriously neglected during my care...

Now if you didnt have say regular access to internet, or people who have given birth around you, where are you suppose to get your information from? Midwives and your healthcare team, but I get a ten minute slot every fortnight so I doubt that they can give me all the information in that time......

I'll be honest I just think the whole thing takes the !!!!!!!

    OK pregnant rant over :)

I completely agree with you Cafc, there is a serious lack of information given to pregnant women about the actual birth. In my 28 weeks of being pregnant all my mid wife has mentioned about birth is that I am going to a diff hospital as I'm a high risk, that's all. I know the birth is 3 months away but surely a bit of preparation would help. My postcode means no parent craft, no antenatal unless I pay a few hundred pounds, which isn't happening. All my friends are in uni or working and i'm the only one 'with child' so bar this thread and my mother, that's all I have in advice! I have learnt so much from this thread, I am very thankful to all you wonderful ladies :)

I know exactly how you feel, although I have had the baby to run around after and keep me busy, this is the first time I have ever been out of work for more than a couple of months, since I was 15!

Hope a nice sit out in the sun cheers you up a bit:)

DS3 is napping and will most likely wake about 12.30(ish) so will give him lunch and then we are thinking about heading off to the beach for a couple of hours!!

    Mel x
