Do Tesco always refuse to sell broccoli without the stalk on?!

No. The comment was in respect of stuff that the OP didn't like. I don't like banana skins or chicken bones, but I don't take the time to remove them in order to save a few measly pence.0 -

If *everyone* snapped the stalks off, maybe Tesco would do something about it properly.)
I wonder what they'd do if I turned up at the checkout with just a bag of snapped off stalks :think:0 -
But if you consider that stalks are worth slightly less, wouldn't you prefer to buy them separate at a lower £/kg ?Equaliser123 wrote: »No. The comment was in respect of stuff that the OP didn't like. It's not viable to remove the chicken bones or banana skins so the comparison is completely moot.
Chickens are pre-packaged, weighed and priced (assuming there isn't static pricing). So removing the bones would make no difference.
Bananas? Sure, where you pay per weight it could save, I assume you like brown manky bananas? (not saying you don't, my sister loves them).0 -
Bottom line is - the practice of altering products pre-purchase in order to save a few pennies is illegal, immoral and stingey beyond belief.
Cannot believe this thread has run to 5 pages.0 -

Illegal, Property damage maybe, the shop could always sell it to you and cut your losses.
Immoral, just like the supermarkets then.
Stingey, I do love this... because I don't want to pay for something I don't want we're automatically stingey... probably all stingey in the first place for giong to a large supermarket when a local grocer is probably only pennies more - notice to all tesco customers: you're all stingey.
5 pages? moral dilemma? I don't see why it wouldn't go on...0 -
I eat all the broccoli stalk and head, thought that was what everyone else did,you learn something new every day.:D:A :shocked: :A0

S'up dawg,
I heard u like broccoli in ur thread so I posted broccoli in ur thread so u can b*tch about broccoli posting broccoli while u b*tch about broccoli.
I'm sorry, I have compulsive old-meme-posting disorder.
As a kid I always thgouth the stalk was the best bit so this whole thread made me lol. I'm certain they have no legal obligation to sell you the expensive bits of their veg. You're not allowed to trim your leeks before you buy, you can't remove the stalk on asparagus and you can't peel your oranges before they get weighed. It's not unreasonable, and if you eat it it dramatically reduces waste. Imagine if everyone sorted their broccoli before buying, there'd be stalks everywhere! And the carbon footprint of Tescos would grow another mile.:coffee:Coffee +3 Dexterity +3 Willpower -1 Ability to Sleep
