Do Tesco always refuse to sell broccoli without the stalk on?!

At last, a sane voice amongst all this madness.
Have all the cyber saints here had a look at Tesco's profits lately? (And yes, it is relevant). This retail virus are killing our town communities and riding roughshot over councils. If you don't believe have a look here http://www.tescopoly.org/
All your analogies are completely bonkers. You need to think first before spouting out your knee-jerks.
Every little hurts (us).
Personally, I can't stand Tesco. But worse than Tesco is the attitude that if someone (whether person or a corporate) is making money, then 'poorer' people are entitled to steal from them.0 -
Next thing will be people peeling the spuds cos they don't eat the skin or coring the pineapples cos they don't eat the core..... the worlds gone mad!!
Pineapple by weight? I've never seen that (even in Frescos), else I would say you could take the top off (some of them fall off anyway).0 -
It is Tiggywood, Laz123, Oopsadaisy, Kalaika who are bonkers. This is the stupidest thread of the month. The funniest thing is the OP actually chose to post this in the "Consumer Rights" section, not "Rants and Raves".
The reason for the policy is blindingly obvious. The fairness of the policy is blindingly obvious. Those who break stalks off (not the OP) are dirty, thieving low-life and should be thusly treated.0 -
Jackieglasgow (post #6) might if she was feeding her 2 boys...
;)
 I'd buy bags of stalks provided they were nice & fresh
I always feel broccoli before buying, & if it's floppy, it gets left on the shelf
and pay the same price for this as you would for a "normal" bit of Broccoli?
hardly...0 -
Right, sorry for taking this right off thread, but a couple of people have alluded to:
Eating Broccoli Stalk
Broccoli Stalk Soup
Can you expand? My o/h is addicted to Broccoli and most of the stalk goes into the compost. Didn't even realise you could eat it / use it in cooking. I want more details!0 -
off topic much?!?
is it only Tesco that sell broccoli?
so in your reasoning it's ok to snap bits off that you don't want to pay for in Tesco but don't do it in a small local grocers?
Not really. The OP mentioned Tesco. That's the culprit I chose to slag off. And yes, I wouldn't do it in small stores. We want to keep them alive, don't we?0 -

I've seen your other posts. Not the most constructive contributor, are we? I know they can't force you but please keep taking the medication. Smoking broccoli stalks might help.0 -

I think it is pathetic how people try and save a couple of pennies by damaging produce.
I really wouldn't stoop as low as that.
totally agree! its like when people eat in the supermarket before they've bought it. are you diabetic? no? well then stop eating! its gross!
anyway given the ops morals... or lack thereof... next time i go to asda and look lovingly at the muffins - which i never buy because they come in a 4 pack and i only want one... i'll CHUCK the other 3 out of the box and just buy the one... and when i'm there i'll switch the label for something cheaper and go through the self service!
thing is... i bet these people who are snapping the stalks "to save a few pence" were livid when the MPs expenses row came about... hey they were only "saving a few pence" too!0 -

Huh? Have I misunderstood something? I assume broccoli is weighed at the till. The stalk bit probably weighs more than the fluffy bits. Many people (although not all clearly) throw the stalk away. The supermarkets are therefore charging people for something that they're not going to use.
If you break the stalk off, then you're not paying for the extra weight. But you are still paying for what you've got. How is that theft? You've not taken something you've not paid for. Admittedly you may have created more waste, but according to Tesco, it was going to go in the bin anyway - even the fluffy bits!
Personally, I can't stand broccoli. Everyone knows it gives you cancer."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0
