Penpen I would use some of the vacuum storage bags.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

  • Hi, Moggins! I had one of those when they were first around, from Lakeland. It worked fine, but kept the vacuum for about 20 mins, than was just like a big bag again. I swapped it, as I thought there must be a fault, but the same thing happened again.

Are they better now? Any suggestions where to buy them?

    Many thanks, Penny. x

They were a bit hit and miss to begin with weren't they, the ones I've bought now (and I can't remember where from) have a seal at the end like the reusable sandwich bags, these seem to work much better at holding the vacuum.

  • Thanks moggins! Just looked again on the Lakeland website, and found ones for duvets (which I could also use for spare room), and guess what:
    Lakeland wrote:
Quadruple your storage space with these remarkable bags. Reduce seasonal clothing, duvets, quilts and blankets to a quarter of their normal size.

The industrial-strength material will not tear; moths, moisture, odour and dust are locked out; items spring back to their original shape when removed; and the bag can be used again and again. After filling, just suck out the air with your vacuum cleaner nozzle.

Able to hold up to twice as much as VacuSac Bags of similar dimensions. The special gusseted square base increases the capacity and allows you to stack the compressed bags in a cupboard.

    Got to have them, then!

Pen-Pen, we got some of the space-bags from the states a few years ago, one has now given up the ghost, but 3 others still going strong. Just bought a couple of replacements, think DH got them from Lakeland. Same brand, whatever! Have had some spare duvets in there. and actually go through the routine of reinflating every six months, so definitely holding the vacuum!!

Too late as usual, you've found it yourself!!!

  • i have been doing the challenge but not writing it up on here!
but i just have to tell all that don't know you don't always have to buy special vacuum space saving bags. some strong good quality black bags, fill them ,use your vacuum cleaner on it to suck the air out, i try to put my vac right in the middle. then have elastic bands or i use hair bands as i have millions of the things.to tie up the ends. they shrink down very well.
i label them after wards and store in a suitcase job done.
    money saved!
At last I have a signature.
  • I didn't know if we would be starting a new thread for the September challenge, but it looks like you aren't.

I've been at my sisters babysitting so now real flying for me this week, just maintenance. Although i did notice that it was the 1st today.

    done today:
    • bought DH's car insurance
    • tidied spare bedroom as DH's dad is visiting tomorrow to help finish the decorating.
    • cleaned bathroom
    • paid bills online
    • washed spare room bedding
    • decluttered some magazines (lovingly gave them to my sister to entertain her for a bit)
    • made sure i kept sisters house reasonably tidy, and washed up for her/hung her washing out/put things away

i can't do that much until downstairs is fully decorated, and new storage is in place. hopefully that will mean next week, i can start dealing with an armful of 'things' at a time. :T I will be ruthless. :D

I will be back at work as well from Monday, so it will be quite hard to be motivated after the 6 weeks hols, but i will try my best.

CM, not too late, hun! Great to have a testimonial from someone who's actually used them. Will definitely be trying some of these.

    Thank you, Penny. x

Thanks for the vac bag suggestion. They sell them in Morrisons too but I wasn't sure that they were any good. It would be great to take some of the bulk out of the things that do need to be in storage.
Sarahsaver I really like the sound of your card idea. I do tend to ignore the top floor as it is very hard to get up there with the boys and it would give me the discipline to do it. Shame to let it slip......
