Not tried cat litter or Oust... but the guys on the ebay books board swear by it.

    http://forums.ebay.co.uk/thread.jspa?messageID=1200022645&forumID=2010#1200022645

Thanks for the link Fay :T

I think I shall try some of this Oust that the Ebayers talk about - its sound good.

The book that I left in a box of cat litter for about a month now smells okay too - but Oust sounds like a faster method.

Just saying hello as I've been away for a week and now you are on a new thread.
When I returned from my hols I had a video returned by Royal Mail. I have addressed it correctly and have emailed the buyer but had no response - very strange.
Hopefully now I have posted here lots of sales will come my way.

I've still got one here that was returned about 3 weeks ago. I never heard a thing back from the buyer so I have no idea what to do now.

On the last thread we were discussing whether Reader's Digest Books are worth listing.

Here's an example of one that I sold this morning for £7.25.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/detail/offer-listing/-/0276422317/used/ref=sdp_used/202-9632378-2627849

However, it is also a fine example of one to watch for postage. It weighs a whopping 1.760g without packaging, so it is going to cost me £5.31 to post by parcel rate.

I'm happy enough though because the book was given to me to sell so I will have made a profit of £2.95. I don't suppose I'll be able to retire tomorrow though

To get the smoky smells from books try getting a ziplock freezer bag, put the book inside and then put some shake n vac powder inside the bag, then shake the bag to get the powder all in the book, leave sealed for 1 - 2 days , unzip , flick pages to remove dust , and wipe with a clean dry cloth , works for me.
Oh yeah there is a tobacco remover & summer fresh shake n vac, they seem to work best.

Moan worked - sold 5 today and those 2 to USA (that I posted about before) for £26 so a good day all in all. Has anyone else contacted book shops direct about books which won't list but you know are worth a bit??

hope everyone else is having a good day too>:j

  • You may remember a few days ago I asked for suggestions of things we've learned to go in the first post on the 'selling your stuff on amazon' thread, I mentioned that the first post couldn't be added to as it was full so there was to be an overspill into post 2.

Well, I've made a start on this and I know that it will carry on growing as we keep getting new ideas to improve how we do things and it will be the place that the answers to frquently asked questions will be placed so a newbie may find the answer there quicker than asking on this thread for help - having said that I know that all our Amazonians will be very happy to help out with answers to questions, remember Martin said there is no such thing as a stupid question.
Anyone that has sold a few items is already an expert with advice to pass on so please don't think that you have to have lots of sales under your belt before you can chip in and help someone out.

    Secondly .......

A really good idea came up when I asked for suggestions and our BGs have said that it's OK to give it a try for a while to see if it works.

It was mentioned that really good nuggets of advice and information get lost amongst the day to day chatter and they are hard to find a few days later when you need to read them again - and it's true :o:o:o - we all come on the thread and tell of joys, triumphs and disasters, have a bit of a brag or a moan - and we all love to hear how each other is getting on, the support and encouragement that everyone gives to each other is wonderful and I know that we wouldn't want it to stop

    SO

I've started a new thread 'Amazon selling ...how was your day today?' this is the place for all our usual chat and support and not much more than that really, if you have a brilliant tip, idea or question then *this* old thread (notice that I've altered it's name slightly) is the place to put it, it keeps all the informative stuff neat and tidy for all of us to use as a reference library.

I have, well DD has, for the very first time listed an item on Amazon, and I have a question about pricing. Now this is a college text book that I purchased from an Amazon seller a couple of months ago (DD did a fast track class this summer). Obviously as a new seller with 0 feedback, I have to price lower to compensate, but how much lower? Also, what's odd is that over the couple of months I've had this book, the average used price has risen, so the price I paid for it is about 70% less than the going rate. Do you think that's the result of normal market fluctuations i.e. lots of people selling college texts at the end of the school year?

Hi Jennifer - welcome to the wonderful world of Amazon selling. I wouldn't worry about lowering your price because you have no feedback as yet. I've been selling for a couple of months and although I've sold about 17 items, I've only ever had one feedback but it doesn't seem to put people off buying. I had no feedback for the first month and books still sold so don't lower your price just cos of that. We did discuss text book selling in the last thread and some people felt that text book selling wouldn't pick up until Sept but its very variable. Worth sticking it on though and see what happens.

    Good luck, Teapot
