HI all I am really helping you can help.
Went again to the auction marke ttoday and won a lot of 3 crates of books for £5.00. I have brought them home and oohh its not as easy as I thought !. I listened to you all and have got rid of the reader digest ones but its the ones I have left that has gave me a headache. The boxes were a mixed lot and their were some newish books on gardening and walks. However I have 2 problems.
1 - some of the books are REALLY old dated from 1915 to about 1929, ( some with peoples names on the inside & elememtary schoool deatils ). Obviousily these have no isbn numbers so what do I do with them ? Do i give them to a local charity shop or are they worth anything ? eek how do I know.
Starting to get in a flutter!!
2 - there are not a lot of good books but I am having difficulty deciding whether to put them on ebay or amazon. This one HERE for instance is weird as it is selling for £1.50 and £49.94! on amazon which is really stange. Same book is only about a few pound on ebay as far as I can see. So for instance why is the price so strange on AMazon and how much do you think I should sell it, and where for .It is in good condition but totally baffled me.
Many thanks- im not sure I am cut out for all this as you all must have the patience of saints and im just thick !!!

ps well done on the sale of the star wars book !

Hi all, can I pick your brains please? Just had this email from a potential buyer apparently:

    Begin message

Hi, could you give me a price for p&p on this item?

    Thanks, Alex

    End message

But I thought Amazon just gave a standard rate. Am I missing something?

    Thanks all

  • KerryBridges - it is a standard price that amazon charges but I can't say that it's obvious on the selling pages, your buyer is thinking that it's a bit like ebay with indivdual postage costs per sale.

Cat, well done on taking the plunge on a bulk buy. I'd have a look on www.bookfinder.com for all the books, old ones included, you might see some of them there. The one you linked to is going to be there too I expect so you'll get a better idea of a sensible price, I think the expensive one is just trying it on.

Annie - no idea I'm afraid

Boomdocker - I'd like to know the answer to your question too - I've just acquired a box of DVDs and I'm finding them harder to list than books.

    Hi AT

As a general rule it is the 13 digit number below the barcode that the Amazon input screen requires.

This seems to work for Playstation/Pc games/VHS and even puzzles.

Amazon may not list all puzzles, ones that we bought this Christmas were listed eg Simpsons 5032235000970 and Wanted 4001689290047

    Hope that helps, FFM

I have been working my way through a box of videos and it was awfully frustrating. The long number turned up nothing, yet the video was there whe I did a search by name but the number with it didn't appear anywhere on my video box...same photo same manufacturer as well. I ended up turbo listing many of them for ebay when I get back from holidays as they seemed to get a better price on there. These are not just Hollywood films BTW, they are a very odd collection of cult films, wrestling videos and some anime. All the Hollywood type films were worthless both on Amazon and Ebay so off to the charity shop they went...bag loads of them.

Most ebooks sold on ebay can be found somewhere else on the net for free. As many go for pennies just to build up feedback I think you would need to write your own unique one and sell that to make money.

I wonder if any of the more experienced sellers could advise me on two things.
The first thing is the packing slip.
Do you just print it out and send it, or do you include a word processor document, thanking them for their purchase, and pasting the packing slip onto it?
The second thing is feedback. I've sold about 40 things now, and have a feedback of 3. Do you mention leaving feedback in either the email confirming dispatch, or on the packing slip.
I've had glowing emails from purchasers thanking me, but no feedback left. I don't mention feedback at all , but wonder if I should, because I don't like being asked, and I always left feedback for sellers.
I send a packing slip thanking them, and letting them know I will refund if they are not happy with the condition of the book, but should I be including anything else?
    Thanks in advance.
  • Hi Jazzy, personally I just print off the packing slip and write a little thank you note at the side of the printing, then it goes into a Documents Enclosed thingy. I know that some people write a separate thank you note.

Feedback - you could ask for it but as you say they may not like being asked. Amazon will ask them around 4 weeks after the sale if they'd like to leave feedback, this often works but apparently only 1 in 5 sales gets feedback.

I send a thank you email after the postage to tell them that it's on the way and suggest they get back to me if there are any problems but that's all, no specific note in the parcel mentioning refunds.

That's great, I'm ratting through them now.

I have an extra DVD question about the little brochure under the clips on the inside of the front cover, I have some DVDs to sell that don't have a brochure, do I assume that it's missing and mention it or is there any way to tell from the product details if there really was one there originally?

Just to let you all know, I just bought 325 printed labels to stick on the back of my jiffy bags. They only cost £1.60 delivered. I only ordered them a couple of hours ago but they sound great. Save me writing on the back, and probably cheaper than printing myself. A lot smaller than the labels I use on the front. So I shouldn't get any back by mistake.

Hope this helps some of us Amazonians & Ebayers.
