Value of VW cars

In total I have owned 6 VW's all golfs
I currently have 2 an old K reg golf clipper convertable and a T reg golf GTI.
Sadly the GTI has just died and the AA man that towed me home advised that it could be an open cheque book to get it fixed (major engine problem).
I will see if I can get a new engine for it (dependent on price) but failing that will sell it for parts and then most definately get another golf.

Does it pain you to learn some people do their homework, shop around, travel 200 miles to buy a car in an effort to minimise the money you otherwise hemorrhage on the vast majority of newer cars these days.
Doesn't " pain " me at all that some mug buys a car that has had a million owners and is now the subject of a DVLA investigation about ownership rights..:rotfl:0 -

An E36 BMW is "a prestige car that holds its value", lmfao.
You dont know what youre talking about.
Oh my god, look, dozens of articles explaining why used car prices went up in 2009!!!!!!!!

Dozens? I see 4 links, not 12, and 3 of those links are US sources. The US car market is completely different to the UK car market.
But I thought that the central point of your argument was that your E36 would hold its value because it's a "prestige car"? Whereas now, you seem to be claiming that it'll hold its value because of changes in the US car market?0 -

Used car prices in the UK rose last year, Im not going to bother arguing about facts such as that. If you want evidence just google the phrase 'why did used car prices increase' on https://www.google.co.uk.
Re-read the thread and you might see how much of a tw*t you've behaved.
In a thread about cars holding their value, the phrase I used to which you ignorantly replied "dream on" was...
"Take my 3 series bmw for example, I bought it for 4.5K during the recession last year. Its an 02 plate coupe. It will still be worth 4K in 2 or 3 years time."
I stand by that comment and cited a few examples to back it up, pointing out that even the older generation coupes still sell for up to £3000 for a good one. You dont know anything about my car, you dont know what spec it is, you dont know what kit is inside it.
Let me get this straight, e36s will hold their value because they are (ex)prestige cars. Its a lot of car for your money.
My e46 coupe will still be worth 4K in 2/3 years time because they are currently worth a touch more than that. They wont depreciate greatly because its a very popular, affordable, cheap to insure, beautiful car.
Considering the latest e90 coupes are a minimum of 13/14K for the oldest, highest mileage ones its going to take a fair bit of time for them to drop in value and the margins to follow suit down through the ranks.
There isnt a cats chance in hell of the e90s coming down below 10K anytime soon so theres absolutely no reason for the older models to miraculously drop in value.
I look forward to you outrageously mis-quoting me again for the 10th time.0 -

I hear its because VW spent so much of their budget on a new suspension set up and making it handle better than the MK4 that the interior was an after thought so intead they resorted to using some cheap nasty materials.
However I recently bought a MK6 Golf GT TDI and the quality compared to my previous MK5 is leagues ahead. I looked at the BMW 1 series and A3'S before buying it and it was nicer than both of them interior wise.
The MK6 GTI will have much better build quality.
Yeah a Mk5, if they spent so much on the suspension they need to try again, 50 miles in that car and your back feels like its being slowly seperated from your head and pelvis.
Are the TDi engines not originally FPT derived units. I am sure Fiat sold the rights to common rail to Bosch who then did the TDi's? Also while some are preaching about how good Mercedes are it was only a few years ago that they were in talks with Fiat to produce the small Mercedes cars but apparenly Fiat couldnt do it cheap enough, read into that what you want.0 -

I tend to drive forwards so don't have a problem:) There are other cars with far worse rear visibility but I did spec parking sensors.0 -

Yes, we know this.Re-read the thread and you might see how much of a tw*t you've behaved.
Ah, now we begin with the personal insults. Always the sign of a weak argument. In a thread about cars holding their value, the phrase I used to which you ignorantly replied "dream on" was...

"for up to" - and for your information, they generally don't sell at that price, because the people who place such adverts have an inflated idea of their car's value. The ones that do sell, are much cheaper.Let me get this straight, e36s will hold their value because they are (ex)prestige cars. Its a lot of car for your money.

Really? You bought your car during a recession, how do you know there won't be another recession? A massive hike in fuel prices? A change in car tax?
You don't, and you cannot accurately predict the value of your car in 2 or 3 years time. It'll certainly be far less than you think, however.Considering the latest e90 coupes are a minimum of 13/14K for the oldest, highest mileage ones its going to take a fair bit of time for them to drop in value and the margins to follow suit down through the ranks.
:rotfl: They've halved in value inside three years, in another three years they'll halve again. Just like most other cars. There isnt a cats chance in hell of the e90s coming down below 10K anytime soon so theres absolutely no reason for the older models to miraculously drop in value.
I look forward to you outrageously mis-quoting me again for the 10th time.
And I look forward to more observations and insults from the dreamworld you occupy...0 -

No, its the result of not getting through to someone with an incredibly low IQ.Pew_Pew_Pew_Lasers! wrote: »"for up to" - and for your information, they generally don't sell at that price, because the people who place such adverts have an inflated idea of their car's value. Wrong. Its not a vauxhall corsa, its a car with a niche market.Pew_Pew_Pew_Lasers! wrote: »Really? You bought your car during a recession, how do you know there won't be another recession? A massive hike in fuel prices? A change in car tax?

Wrong. We are talking about old cars, they arent subject to the price elasticities of more common/cheaper cars.Pew_Pew_Pew_Lasers! wrote: »:rotfl: They've halved in value inside three years, in another three years they'll halve again. Just like most other cars.
Wrong. Naturally they plummet in value over the first few years but then the prices even out. If your remarks were true then why are the older shapes still selling for 10K. Shouldnt they now be valued at 5K!?!?!
This topic is going nowhere other than giving you a social life so cheerio.
I'll email you in 2 years to point out that the e90 coupes are still worth 12/13K, not 7K and that the e46 coupes still achieve 4K, not 2k.0 -
No, its the result of not getting through to someone with an incredibly low IQ.
Would that be like someone that has purchased a car with a shady history and a zillion owners that is deluded enough to think that it is worth more than they were ripped off for it?:rotfl::rotfl:
You need to wake and smell the coffee, instead of coming on here with your pathetic attempts at insulting people.0
