Im thinking about buying a new car or at least new to me but still undecided whether to go for a brand new or a year old, possibly a brand new or year old is what i would get.
Thanks for the replies,0 -
I think you also find that VW don't flood the market with loads of vehicles, I'm in a vw drivers forum, and i've been waiting for my new Golf Bluemotion for 6 weeks, and a possible another 4-6 weeks to go, some people have had gti's on order for the best part of six months, and this is all because they aren't pumping out several thousand vehicles into parking lots up and down the continent, like Ford/Vauxhall etc, I mean every dealer you go into there are several thousand of list price, with VW you're lucky to get a couple off, and thats for the best hagglers. But paying that mooney you are fairly secure in the knowledge that you're motor, if you look after it, will hold at least half of it's value after 3 years and average mileage.
When I bought my Bravo last summer I could have had GTi for 15k brand new. Thats 6 or 7k of list, however my brother has one and its by far one of the most uncomfy cars I have been in, added to that it rattled like hell and felt cheap inside for the money they are asking. I have no idea why everyone loves them so much.
Look at the reliability rankings and you will see that VW are not what they used to be.0 -

True, same with Audi, it seems that Skoda do best in the VAG Group these days.0 -

I'd believe it - more than happy with the Fabia I'm driving at the moment and I'm sure with a bigger engine it'd be a great car (for my use - economy of a 1.2 suffers on NSL roads and motorways)
Dealer service is second to none as well (even though I'm taking a Vauxhall to them for repair :rotfl:) - I believe this is hit or miss throughout the dealer network though0 -

I assume you are talking about a MK5 GTI? I agree the build quality standar slipped in the MK5 range. I hear its because VW spent so much of their budget on a new suspension set up and making it handle better than the MK4 that the interior was an after thought so intead they resorted to using some cheap nasty materials.
However I recently bought a MK6 Golf GT TDI and the quality compared to my previous MK5 is leagues ahead. I looked at the BMW 1 series and A3'S before buying it and it was nicer than both of them interior wise.
The MK6 GTI will have much better build quality.0 -
glen, the scirocco is a beautiful car very nice indeed, can be quite costly, but on the vw forum i'm in it gets some cracking reviews from guys who have them. If I wasn't so mindset on being 'green' with getting a golf bluemotion, i'd have been seriously tempted with the scirocco, fell in love with it the minute I seen it when it launched.
Sadly not ideal if you like being able to see out of your car. The rear windscreen is like a letterbox!
(PS - nothing 'green' about buying a new car, no matter what label it has on it
) I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -

No, you dream on.
The cheapest alike model on the 3 or 4 main used car websites is £5,000 and its been to the moon and back.
And considering the mid 90s e36 coupes still sell for £3,000 I think I know what Im talking about when I say mine will be worth 4K in 2/3 years time.
Older prestige cars hold their value because you get a lot of car for your money.0 -

£3000 for a mid-nineties E36? Don't forget to also mention the 90% of those coupes that are £1500 or less.
Unless there's something very special about your car, it'll be in with the other examples. Oh and advertised prices rarely reflect sale prices.0
