  • http://www.17to40.co.uk do mainly young driver car insurance but do cover Northern Ireland, they were OK for me but also try AXA. It is true that the increased personal injury costs in Northern Ireland make the difference and there is not a lot you can do about this other than try everyone on this page.
  • The only thing that you can do is ring around the insurers and try to get the best prices. Don't be afraid to move insurer. I know people who just pay their renewal notice automatically without checking for better prices.

Over the past three years I've had three different insurers; Abbey (£700), AXA Direct (£525), and now Quinn Direct (£493). I expect to do the rounds again next year when renewing.

    Good luck.

I got a good quote from MCL McClartys in Coleraine, which insures me and my parents. It was less than half the previous years quote from Admiral. Only problem is, I can't insure anyone else, or the price goes up by hundreds. Also, they charge for the claim line, which, thankfully I haven't had to use yet.

Tried confused.com. Their T&C say that you must confirm that you are living in the UK, excluding NI and the Channel Islands. Also, it only came back with 4 quotes, which were more than my car's worth (97 Citroen AX).

I've added that one to the complete list in the first post. ;)
  • Thought I'd give my experiences of getting insurance.

Although I've been driving for about 8 years up until 2 years ago I'd always been insured as a named driver on my parents insurance (with AXA through Hughes & Company) . Last year when I was getting insurance in my own name the cheapest was with AutoLine using AXA, cause they would take into consideration the fact I'd been a named driver (with no claims) on a previous policy with them (AXA not Autoline). This saved me about £300 compared to the next cheapest.

This year when shopping around for my insurance I found the cheapest to be with the broker that my parents were with when I was a named driver on their policy - Hughes & Company. This was working out £340 cheaper than last years insurance and £100 cheaper than anywhere else. All set to sort out the payment of the deposit when I happened to mention that I had previously been a named driver on a policy with them for 4 years and would that make a difference. The girl said it might make a small difference so checked on their systems, turns out it was £110 cheaper !!!

So now my insurance has dropped £450 since last year. Nice.

So if anyone has previously been insured as a named driver on someone elses policy and then are getting insurance in your own name, make sure you mention the previous policy.

Hope this helps someone get cheaper insurance.
Why do companies offer you "free gifts?"
Since when has a gift NOT been free?

I have just renewed my car insurance through Oakland In Larne. For me, my hubby and my 19 yr old daughter just out of her R plates they quoted £585 fully comp with AXA for my Citroen C3 Desire. The next cheapest quote we could get to that was over £900.

I've just renewed my car insurance for this year. My previous insurer (privilege) now no longer covers NI. Last year they were still unbeatable so I kept them on. This year was a different story. Quote for this year, fully comp was £522. Some people might say that's not bad, but this was a massive hike for me compared to last years prices. I've never made a claim on my insurance, so decided to look round. Allianz direct (link to website on first post ) came up trumps with a quote for £366, quite a difference. I've also put my partner and my Dad on the insurance without any extra costs. Next best to this was Elephant (link on first post) at £376 and third was Diamond (link on first post) at £396. Just goes to show that it pays to shop around!

I got a really good deal this year from Abbey Insurance Brokers, Newtownabbey. They were much more competitive than the other 3 brokers I tried. It is worth shopping around a lot if you have the time. I do it every year when my insurance is due for renewal, and very often I change companies if I get a better deal elsewhere. You dont have to stay with the same company year after year. There is so much competition with the insurance industry it pays to shop around. :j

    Has anyone tried easymoney.com?
I saw the ad in the Easyjet in-flight magazine.
