Word of warning to Marksi - don't tell companies that your job is in media as either won't insure you or will load against you. I have the same problem but as I work in Marketing in Media the advisor told me just to put down marketing. Go for something simple.
Also watch with elephant - my BF took out a policy with them cause it was the cheapest. However, 10 months down the line they wanted renewal - it was only a 10 month cover which is thier standard unless you specify otherwise. He hadn't - just made an assumption. Make sure you all check so you aint caught out like he was.0 -
ESURE DO NOT QUOTE FOR NORTHERN IRELAND (YET ANOTHER COMPANY TO ADD TO THE LIST!)0

Allianz Direct (formerly First Rate Direct) are quite good in NI for 'Second Car' insurance (eg If hubby /wife has own/company car which is the main family car, then partner can get good deal on their car).

Hope this helps someone.butterfly )i(0 -
An update, just got my renewal from Adelaide and they are looking £690
for a 1996 414i Rover worth £700 and I am absolutely flabergasted. I sold my 2002 Scenic 1.9DCI (which cost £490 to insure with Adelaide) to cut down on costs to concentrate on debts and they are now looking another £200 to ensure a lesser, cheaper car.
McWhirter are even only quoting £480 FC or £399 3rd Party which is pretty much the cheapest. Think I'll be changing from Adelaide. Seems they only give decent quotes for brand new cars0 -
Sorry, I haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know if 'Prestige' have been mentioned yet? They have proved to be the cheapest by far consistantly, now Prestige are just the underwriters, so you will still need to go through a broker like Abbey or Endsleigh, but if you ask them to quote you through Prestige, then you will probably get a better deal.
Prestige are an online only company from NI, so this keeps costs down.
If you use these guys:

Then you can get a list of everyone using Prestige.
Also one of the biggest things that effects your car insurance is your occupation...0 -
I have used Admiral for the last 3 years as they have been cheapest but unusually my premium reduces now every year with them! I must be gettin old. They're also good for second car policies.Timmay!0

Any NI drivers looking for the cheapest quotes available should try the PO! Yes, the Post Office! I couldn't believe it either until I got several quotes online that blew the major companies out of the water - even the online ones!!!0

I agree with butterflymum, allianzdirect were the best for me for a second lower CC car - in my wife's name. Also cheaper for her profession to be a part-time tutor than housewife.
Best advice is to shop around, never automatically accept a renewal. Elephant has been best for me for the past few years.0 -
I'm with butterflymum and tas,
We have two cars (insured for Mr pw and I to drive for business and pleasure), both cars have been insured with allianz for the past four years, and we have never managed to get a better quote from any other insurance company.

was using Northern Car Ins. but changed to a company called "auto line" found them on line and they beat everyone, even through in roadside assist and protected no claims0
