    Hi all

So good to see this thread soooo busy for all the right reasons of course. Welcome to all the new people who have joined in the last few weeks - we never turn anyone away!

I have been busy getting on with my new job in the BBC and I have to say, so far its been brill. I haven't received my first pay yet but considering I got 2 weeks from my last place on Friday and will be getting my first week's pay this Friday (if that makes sense) I'm doing fine.

Hoping it will give me a little extra cash I wasn't expecting for Christmas. Like everyone else here, I want to try and cut back for Christmas so we'll see how that goes.

For any newbies joining, please please don't worry about your DMP. As many of us can testify, we all seem to have slightly differing experiences with acceptance but perservering always gets there in the end.

As an inspirational message, I was talking to a friend of my recently who has ended up in the same position as me strangely enough and she did originally have a company whom she paid (one of those!) to make her payments on her DMP for her. When she realised what was happening, after I spoke to her about my advice from CAB, she decided to take it upon herself to sack the company and contact all of the creditors directly. She managed to reduce them all to payments of £20 per month each which reduced her monthly payments I believe by £100 and that was already after an original negotiation by the company whom she had paid to do the job.

She is, she would admit herself, neither very legally minded nor one for getting involved in intellectual discussions - particularly where money is concerned - however she still managed to take the bull by the horns, stand firm on what was affordable and win her case. All of the companies complied by following suit. Ahhhh the power of personal intervention.

Take heart - we are all here suffering the stresses and strains of modern day living and still manage to have a laugh!!

There's a real good team of rowers on here and we will meet the finish line with a flourish:T:T

    Eek! Help!

Slight bump in my DMP road and trying not to panic!:eek::eek:

Basically BF is self-employed, his recent contract has come to an end 4 weeks before it was supposed to (nothing bad on him, just finished earlier than expected). He finished 2 weeks ago.

Now my CCCS payment is due tomorrow and because he hasn't been able to pay in his part of the rent/bills etc. I'm pretty sure CCCS DD will bounce! :(

I tried calling CCCS at lunchtime and was on hold for AGES and I don't really have the time during work hours, which is very frustrating.

I know the CCCS don't send payments until the 25th, and I get paid next week, so can definitely get it to them before then.

    Anyone experience similar??

In MAJOR panic and now waffling!!....xx

Ok, I've sent CCCS a message via website, but will try and get them on the phone.

Was doing so well, am really cross with myself. Adjustment to renting a flat and proper bills has been a real struggle :(:(

Anybody else seen that post on the main board? What would advice would you give a 20 year old?

Some excellent replies but all say the same thing really.

    DON'T DO IT!

What would I tell the 20 year old me? Well it wasn't exactly the 20 year old me that had major problems more a 40 year old me. But I would say do not apply for that 1st credit card because it won't be enough E2, it won't be enough.

Oh and don't think you can play the clever, clever stoozing game E2 cos you bloody well can't.

    Just don't do it E2.

    Unfortunately I did.

Great post E2, hindsight is a great thing isn't it?

I still remember my first CC, Capital One when I was 19 (stupidly young!) and I bought some YSL make-up in Debenhams. my limit was £400...then is just snowballs.

Thanks for the advice teds/PDD, haven't had a reply from CCCS, but checked my bank and I'm now overdrawn :( which means it may still bounce or that I've got no money until payday next week (it's less the amount that was going to last me). :(

    Hi all

How bad does this look? I never had a credit card until my early 30's!!!! But they soon racked up. My first one was because I was getting married and to fit the budget we had to bring it forward about 8 or 9 months and had no money saved. Thus it began and then, at the same time, my hubbie left his job and began training as a nurse. Very commendable and as it turns out - the right decision - and 7 years and 4 credit cards and 1 loan later (4 of those supporting his studies) you all know my story.

I had store cards for years but always cleared them. I truly believe that I am just a victim of circumstance but I do wish I had the strength to have said right back at the start that we couldn't afford the holidays and the wedding - they would have to wait!

    Ho hum! Too late now.
