    Morning everyone!
Spent a LONG time looking for cheap (hahahahahaha) self catering cottages in cornwall, for school holidays........oh what a laugh that was. Do people not realise people have The Incorporater DMP to contend with and have to squeeze food budget to pay for holiday and little children must have a holiday- well us too - and BH( not sure if this one makes sense but like bleeping heck) how much, the best I could find that was actually available was £625! Sent booking enquiry, can dream...

My condolences, I am fortunate enough to only need a small place for a holiday, for when my daughter visits in the summer, however last year a 2 bedroom self catering place in cornwall was still 500 pounds.

Have you considered the static caravan option, there are a fair number on ebay, they go up to 6 to 8 berth and whilst not as luxurious as a self catering cottage there tends to be entertainment on site such as swimming pools and the children are in a secure largely car free environment, added to which many are by the beach.

I don't suppose the sun newspaper holidays sit during the school holidays???

Hi BLT and thanks for your post.

Gosh, that must have been so hard with no support and  re the £300 interest.!!

So glad to read you are now debt free, :T

Yep Ted, its a scary thought when you look at a credit card statement for 8500 pounds and realise you are paying 200 pounds a month just to service the interest :-( I would have been better off at the time going to !!!!! and paying their 'vig' :-)

Hi Mama, do they have any youth hostels in Cornwall, much cheaper, family friendly and private rooms?

Have you looked on the UK holidays board , lots of ideas and recommendations on there.........

Thanks Ted...didn't know there was a UK holidays board:o pretty much just zoom here! So will look now.

I have looked into youth hostels you we kind and gave me this top tip before....looked again just now and they are working out about £95 per night for a family room, which we would have to have with two under 5; school holidays ( we can't go away in term time - DH in teaching too) I guess and also very booked up already! :(

Hi mama, gosh that works out expensive! They take Tesco vouchers if that helps, maybe not for this Summer but for next?

VERY good plan Ted:A , especially with the tesco vouchers, will have to be organised and look early next year!

Ted that is soooo out of order and we own this mob of dopes, I would write to a newspaper and expose the barstewards for the filth that they are!!!!

Ted CCCS asked us for a couple of payslips at the beginning and then came back and asked about my commission which of course was showing. I explained that it was commission and I couldn't really control or rely on it so they said to take it off, so I did!!!
OH sometimes has overtime so we treat that the same.
Mama Look at a private hire for the summer, generally cheaper and more open to negotiation, do you have to go in August, end July might be cheaper. Companies to look for are Owners Direct and Homildays, google private self catering, you might also get individual owners with websites on google and they are usually cheaper as well. Other thing does it need to be Cornwall, generally more expensive in the summer, what about North Norfolk or Somerset course or even south Wales????
Sun is shining again (2 days on the trot woow)

Thank you PDD:A, Lots to look at for me there, I was amazed last night, found one house listed on a cottage rental site for 820, then listed through the tourist board for 650 - sames dates!! No it doesn't have to be Cornwall, never been to North Norfolk or Somerset....
    Enjoy your sunshine!
I've nearly conquered the winter washing mountain, its been warm! Washing is drying outside!

Thanks BLT - and welcome! Completely know what you mean about the interest hikes, thats pretty much what was the force behind the light bulb moment. Good to know you are debt free:j. This site and especially Nat's thread really has been the most amazing and best support - can't imagine we'd be where we ae without it!

:doh:Didn't even think to look on ebay for holidays! Buy and sell all the time so thank you, will follow your links - Thank you!
