Hi Arty & welcome to London!

OK, I don’t live in London now, but was born there, went to uni there, lived in three other boroughs at various times & have 200 years of London born family behind me, so definitely feel like a Londoner. It is the best city in the world!!

Amazed you managed to go shopping today as well. Have moved loads of times & normally collapse around the packing boxes with a fish & chip supper & some booze! And your spending does not sound excessive to me. I very much doubt Weezl would be annoyed; she seems far too nice.

And enjoy Ikea tomorrow; which one are you going to? I love the place, but have had some, umm, interesting, experiences dragging BFs round!

Hi, I'm new to the thread but have decided I need to eat healthier on a cheap budget so thought I'd give your website a try! It's just me, so I will probably have to halve some of the recipes to start with, I've just done a shopping list on MrT website and it comes to £30 which should give me nearly a months worth of meals, although i'll only be eating about 5 different meals. Hpefully this is successful and not only will I be healthier, I'll be making my monthly budget of £60 go further!
    Thanks x

PS Would you recommend spending say £30-40 (will be less each month as i get more store cupboard items) of my budget each month in a bulk shop, to then batch cook, and leave myself say £5-10 per week for fresh fruit to snack on, milk etc?
    hello and welcome!

Sounds a good idea to use the site and budget that way, we know everyone will use it differently and adapt it to their unique circumstances. One thought that might save you even more money is that if you are buying more fresh milk than is listed, you'll be able to drop some instant oat cereal because you'll be having slightly more calcium. I'm happy to give you some facts and figures if that would help :)

If any of you have Asian shops nearby go and check them out. it is Ramadan on the 11th August and lots of them are doing really good deals. I got two trays of tinned tomatoes and two trays of chickpeas for £5.50 per two trays. They are also doing 25kg sacks of heera flour for £12 for two. Loads of other offers too. I am stocking up on oil, beans, pulses and spices too among other things
what a great idea! thanks :D

HIYA!! I'm back in the country and have caught up - though I didn't miss much by the looks of it! Not looking forward to doing a rushed meal plan/mega shop today as about the only edible thing in the cupboards is pasta and peanut butter :p.

ETA: OMG, value butter has gone up to 98p!!

does anyone else think it's really strange that lentils are portrayed as bad for you in this article?

    discuss......

I thought it more that the kid was fed up eating lentils for a week :) Don't blame her, really - I like lentils, and could probably eat them happily for a week if I chose to, but if the choice was taken away, I'd probably get fed up too....

I had more of an issue with the suggestion that it's not possible for an immigrant to learn English without attending expensive classes. Not so, I assure you. Especially as English has to be one of the easiest languages to obtain a working knowledge of (the fluency of a native is another matter, even for a native ;) )

Anyway, Weezl - here is the information I need:

    Ingredients for:
    mayo
    chutney
    tomato scones
    cordial

Information on how many times each of the following Kitty is making in a month:
    raisin scones
    mayo
    chutney
    tomato scones
    lemon cordial
    cordial
    carrot loaf batch
    ginger loaf batch
    bread and doughnuts batch
    coconut pudding

    Further questions:
Does she also do an ordinary four-loaf bread batch with no additions ? If so, how many times ?

What happened to the BNS tart ? Does she still have that as a snack ? It's not listed on the test site.

No rush, as I probably won't have time to utilise the information this week, but when you have the time to update me, can it be here, please, as then I can access it from work which might help spee things up if I have a quiet day :)

but then it's not a valid argument in support of saying that the wage is 'too low' morally?

if it means you have to eat stuff that's bad for you, yes, if just a bit dull?

    I dunno :)

PS will answer the other q's after- guess what another blinkin ikea visit! :D
