Weigh out the potatoes as specified in the recipe. Slice in half lenghtways, then place the halves cut-side down on a chopping board, halve again, then cut each resulting half in two. You should now have 8 chunky potato wedges. If your potatoes are very big, you might want to halve each wedge once more, but that is entirely up to you.

Pour the vegetable oil into a small bowl, then throw the wedges in, shaking them about until they are covered in oil. If you don't mind getting your fingers greasy, using your hands can help to get even coverage. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and if you would like your wedges spicy, add a bit of chillu powder or garam masala.

Place the wedges skin-side down on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes on 220 C (200 fan). Start checking after 15 minutes and take out when brown and puffy.

If anyone would like to edit this to make it shorter/clearer, please do so - I'm afraid I tend towards wordy if unchecked !

I know I've said it before but I LOVE what you're doing here! Times are tough but I think everyone can benefit from the practical help you're offering. This is a much better approach than complaining about the recession! :T

I haven't been able to keep up with the mammoth thread so please forgive me if this has been addressed already - I was wondering what is the best way of adapting the plan for single person (i.e me). I'm thinking of trying to do the vegan version of this. This is not my forte so any pointers would be welcome. I probably won't stick to it religiously but I'm trying to get my head around how I would go about having a system like this.

So much is done with bulk buying and cooking - it makes financial sense. But a lot of stuff doesn't keep (fresh produce, baked bread, huge amounts of leftovers). I guess I could scale down recipes but cooking/baking/buying in bulk does save money. And my freezer can only hold so much (it's one of those 4 drawer types - big enough, already quite full though).
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

This is something we are gonna work on once the bulk of Planner 2 is out of the way, I think :)

However, if that's any help, Planner 1 shopping list has been broken down into weekly shopping list and Planner 2 shopping list will eventually be broken down into weekly as well - when I finally manage to find the quiet moment to complete it ! I am fervently hoping this might be next week...

So perhaps you can do week at a time and then not shop for the second week until the food is gone ?

Thanks a mill Allegra, that's great news to hear it's in the pipeline! That's a good suggestion - I'll take a look and see how that will work out. :)

    Hi all,

I wonder if any of you can make vegan food suggestions for me. My dad has a tumor in his throat which is being removed on Tuesday. Once is he home with me I need to feed him easy foods in small portions as his throat will be sore for a long time.
So far I can only think of soup/stew or mash potato with mash veg and gravy for main meals. My mind is just blank.
Puddings are easier as I can give him stewed fruit, custard, ice cream, tapioca/rice pud and possibly pancakes.

Any other suggestions, mainly for savoury.

    Thanks in advance
    Sandra

It's a tough one, isn't it ? All I can think of in addition to what you already listed is rice, cooked until mushy, with somthing like tomato sauce, or mashed veg...

Thanks. I have added your suggestions to my list. It will be difficult to know until after what we can go with. I am going to buy some V8, and other fruity drink, at least that way if he can't eat much, he can drink some goodness.

    Thanks
