    Hi Weezl,

I remember when I used to follow your 50p thread that you needed to get extra calories for your OH. I didn't follow the thread all the way, and was just wondering if they are scattered throughout the thread or was they ever put together. Or perhaps a reader on hear put them together. Was it mainly puddings?
My father in law isn't eating very much and has got so thin you can see his spine and pelvis bones sticking out of him. We are trying to work out ways to get more calories into him. Its difficult as he won't eat much, we need some sneaky ways to make what he does eat more calorific.
He is a meat eater, but he if more fussy than us vegans!!

I know you all wanted to chat, so I though I might as well see if any of you can help me with both of my fathers food problems.

    Thanks in advance
    Sandra

I just read about the planner you guys have made (someone mentioned it in another thread) & can I just say that you all rock! We are the family of 4 & I plan to follow your 1st planner next week. Saving money on my weekly shop is a MUST for us & I appreciate how clearly laid out the info is on it - price, costings, etc. Thank you thank you THANK YOU! Btw, any lurkers out there can find the site here: http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/
  • I will have a think for you Murrel. I had an ex boyfriend with Chron's disease, fed him constantly, I'm sure if I have a mental burrow it will come back to me.

Whilst you are all festooned with thinking caps, I have a favour to ask too. My 12 yr old step daughter is becoming interested in making healthier choices, but is being woefully misinformed by school and peers and others. ( eg I wont have an ice cream, I'll have a chocolate bar instead , or a 7up instead of an iced coffee) Just wondering if any one knows of a resources for tweens on nutrition?

    thanks

Revised - and mercifully, shorter - list of questions and info needed:

Anyway, Weezl - here is the information I need:

    Ingredients for:
    chutney
    cordial

Information on how many times each of the following Kitty is making in a month:
raisin scones (is it 2 ?)
    mayo (assume 1 ?)
    chutney (assume 1 ?)
    lemon cordial (assume 1 ?)
carrot loaf batch ( an attempt at deciphering the s/s comes up with 4, if we assume 16 slices per loaf)
    ginger loaf batch (as above)
    bread and doughnuts batch
    coconut pudding (assume 1 ?)

    Further questions:
Does she also do an ordinary four-loaf bread batch with no additions ? If so, how many times ?
here you go allegra :) hope it helps!
chutney 1 can toms 2 small onions, vinegar from her red peppers and garam salt and pepper, garlic

raisin scones (is it 2 ?) yep
    mayo (assume 1 ?) yep
    chutney (assume 1 ?) 2
lemon cordial (assume 1 ?) yep
carrot loaf batch ( an attempt at deciphering the s/s comes up with 4, if we assume 16 slices per loaf) yep she makes it 4 times
ginger loaf batch (as above) yep
    bread and doughnuts batch-
this has had to change slightly to be less complex for her! Basically I’m planning on her cooking one ginormous donut batch once in the month, no bread at same time.
coconut pudding (assume 1 ?) twice
    Further questions:
Does she also do an ordinary four-loaf bread batch with no additions ? If so, how many times ? it’s a five loaf batch and she does it twice

I think she is concerned she is a little heavier than she would like to be. I think it's probably a puppy fat stage so we're not making anything of it, but I suspect Mum comments.

She knows I cook from scratch and she often shops with me and is really getting the hang of comparing weight as well as price and what you can brand down on and shopping the offers etc. I think this had made her think about what she is putting in her mouth more. Meals wise I dont think there are too many changes she needs to make, I think it's more snacks ( she already eats a fair bit of fruit) and eating out.

    thanks

thanks QOS will certainly get my thinking cap on.

Haven't seen many tween-friendly nutrition sites (all a bit dull!)

Maybe after kitty we should all build one ;)

I'd offer to help but I'm not at all up to speed on what you're doing. But if I can be useful proofreading or anything that doesn't require knowledge of what you're up to, then I'm happy to help.

Also, do you still need recipes testing or are you way past that now?
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

    Hi QOS

I was interested by your question as my DD is 11 & has hit puberty & is concerned that she is a bit plump. It is, again, almost certainly puppy fat, though I don’t use that term to her!

So I did a bit of googling, as one does, and found this:

    http://www.girlshealth.gov/

It is American & aimed at girls aged 10-16. There is a section on nutrition (including healthy choices in fast food restaurants), but also lots of other stuff that affects growing girls, like changes to their bodies, boys! Etc. I’ll come back to it & read more, but it looks like it would be really useful for that age group.

There is also this, which is about health eating etc. aimed at teenagers from the USDA:
