and the amount he is attempting to live on is equivalent to £5.83 for 5 days and is based on the average Worldwide spend on food by the Worlds poor.

There is no indication as to whether the site he got this figure from adjusts food spend according to the cost of food in each country (ie one could get a lot more/better food for that amount of money per se in Bangladesh, for instance, than in Australia or Britain and way more than in Sweden for instance).

    Thank you Susan and Julimk,

I think I will try to do similar to you and buy nice meat but when it is woopsied. Its hard to try to do whats right for you and whats right for the 'planet' isn't it? Eggs are all going to be free range at some point aren't they? At least it takes the dilema away.

Off to work now, had nightmares all last night so am shattered and our hot water seems to have stopped working....not a good start to the day!!!!!!!

Hope everyone has a lovely dayxxxx

Weezlie, when you're next on, just a bit of shopping list clarification, please :)

    - not sure from the list if Kitty has 300g garlic or has that been struck off ?
    - does she have golden syrup or not ?
    - are the parsnips frozen ?
    - did you want apples, bananas and pears added in to the weekly shopping list or are we leaving that to Kitty's discretion ?

garlic- she will be using it (powdered) but we're not 'counting' it- due to her £23 annual seasonings budget

no syrup any more as I felt the donuts were nice enough without it

parsnips- yes the asda frozen ones :)

fresh fruit- entirely discretionary, so let's just pop a line at the bottom - plus your chosen piece of fruit daily...

    howzat? :)

Just had a look at this site. They don't seem to be able to get much for there 2 dollars. It makes cfr, look positively luxury. I don't think the people following it, will be getting all the nutrients required. But its only for a few days to raise money and awareness. Hope they do well.

BTW, the onion price on the spreadsheet is incorrect - atm they are 97p each for SP 2 kg, ao £3.88 for 4 :)

Before the planner 1 test month I hadn't bought meat from a supermarket. I was always a bit wary about what we would really be eating. Since eating ASDA smart price meat I can say we didn't really notice the difference to out old supplier other than that the ASDA mince and chicken had a lot more fat.

Sadly our butcher passed away a few months ago and we now have had to find someone else we trust for our meat. I have bought from the co-op recently because they sell Elmwood chickens which are slightly better than factory farmed and British mince from the co-op. We always wait until the meat is reduced so it cost around the same price as the Asda smart price meat. We are also lucky to have a slow but steady supply of lamb and rabbits which are locally sourced and free!! I would love to be able to afford organic and free range meat but we have to live within our means.

Today we have received a gift of food including mince, chickens and bacon and other things we never buy such as biscuits etc. :D

  • That sounds like the sort of gift I could really appreciate poohbear. No one bearing gifts here so will have to make do with having my first courgette on my courgette plant :D.
