8 Confirm that the fat content of veggie burgers is correct (a reader questioned it)

Lesley can you please help with this query?

The Veg Burgers on the spreadsheet I have list 120ml veg oil. The recipe uses 90ml, but also has an indeterminate amount for frying, so 120ml sounds right.

The total fat in the recipe is 122g, 110g of which comes from the 120ml veg oil. Divided by 4, that is 30.5g each.

Many of the main meals have a similar amount of fat.

    Thanks :)

Although it sounds a lot, that's how we're recommended to get that proportion of our energy isn't it?

It's just that when folk are dieting they often try to reduce the fat content?

    I may be wrong tho!

That was me, thanks. I just thought it sounded extremely high for veggie burgers but now I see why!

Aless, if you would like to write a couple of tips for kitty/shirl on how to make the dishes more diet-friendly, I could pop them in a little tips box like I did with Tia and HG's quotes?

    Would people like that?

    I think I'm with you...

So It doesn't appear on the meal planner table at all?

Just wondering how shirl will find it... 'recipes' page will have become a merge of all shirl's recipes with all kitty's by then (ie once kitty's plan is published)

So the main way that shirl is going to know what she can have will be via her meal planner page....?

    Is this making any sense?:rotfl:

Or can you see another solution?

hmm, ah, yes. She won't be able to see it will she.

Are there any other alternatives that we could list as a page, in the same way as the carrot cake is shown that could flag up things?

    first thoughts
bake the steamed puds in the oven as a pie instead of steaming
use Croation Salad instead of wedges, using some onion from the main recipe
mash the accompanying carrots and peas together to have as a puree / lumpy mash
mash the accompanying potatoes, carrots and peas together and make into patties, fry or bake in oven

would that work, or just be plain confusing?

It does seem high, but lots of scope for reduction with frylight spray?

The whole meal is 760 cals so I'd be reluctant to reduce the fat else we'll end up with skinny Bob :o

    Interesting!

And would solve (a bit) the issue of, 'well that's month one over-but do I now eat exactly the same things for the rest of my life?!' giving some variations on a theme...

I think it's a hefty old project, but pinkhayley would you be prepared to take on writing an alternatives page?

We could all chip in with our alternatives to things based on the same shopping list?

    2 examples (both from QOS:))

getting bored of toast as a snack? try baking one of your loaves into flavoured breadsticks, (give recipe)

Fancy 2 curries for the price of one? (saag aloo) make the lentils into a loose runny dahl with garlic and garam, and serve this with your spinach and potato curry :)

I think Les mis is in a different category to any other musical I've ever seen. It's more of a modern opera. It is not cheesy and camp like musicals are (which is great) it is moving and inspiring and passionate and deadly serious.

It has themes to touch you no matter which stage of life you are at. At 13 I cried about the theme of unrequited love.

At 35 I cried about the woman who pleads with a kind stranger to take care of her child so she can die. (not that I have any plans of popping my clogs imminently!)

Go see it arty, beautiful, cathartic and spiritual it is :)

Lesley:), you mentioned the nutrition for kitty's planner... Are you in a position to be able to do that?

How long would I need to 'freeze' my edits of it for?
