thanks poohbear, I'm really looking forward to reading their verdict on it all. I'd also love any more opinions of mr arty, Mr Frankie and the kids, HG, howlin, jenny etc etc about how you feel, how you've found it all etc.

To give you an idea of quite how extraordinary this amount of money to live on for food is, let me just re-incentivise us, here's a quote from the eat for £12 a week thread on old-style, started in 2006:

    wrote:
Please bear in mind that this original post "eat for £12 a week" was started way back in 2006,for me personally it would have been a struggle then(to eat healthily on only £12),but nowadays, post credit crunch, massive hike in grocery prices etc, it would be near impossible...Id have a better chance with the fishes n the loaves,;)Be interesting to read how others manage.
xxxxx, you asked if anything was missing from your shopping list,I only see flour on there for HM bread,im assuming you need yeast,do you make yours without sugar,or should sugar be added to your list?,
Also does nobody in your household drink tea/coffee/juice?there isnt any fruit on your list either HTH.

This poster (and I'm not knocking her view) believes it would take a miracle to eat for £12 per person per week in todays prices.

    Ladies (and !!!!!! here!)

We have just done it for £5.60 a week

    From a normal supermarket

Without whoopsies, or the faff of shopping around

without nettles, pigs brains or anything weird

    And no-one was hungry.

I feel hugely proud of the testers, and an enormous sense of achievement actually, for believing that this is possible :)

    Hi Weezl

I think I've missed something-why dont you want people to buy online?

I think the major problem would for people like me who dont drive therefore it is hard to carry things home.

I dunno... Personally I'll be going to the shops rather than online anyway as I'll only be ordering for me - it rarely seems worth it for me to order online. I tend to shop around a lot as I pass up to 2 MrS, 2 MrT, 1 S0merfield, 2 L!dls, 1 F@rmfoods and 1 Ald! depending which route I go to and from work! :rotfl: About the only one I don't have easy access to is MrA as its about a 35 min walk each way away so I only go a couple of times a year as its a pain to carry it all home.

I'm don't know if no online ordering would be a deal breaker as not all the things on the meat meal planner were available to me in my area anyway (ignoring the fact I'm veggie for now:p). I imagine not all the things on any future plans will always be available to everyone... (I can't find sundried toms in a jar for under £3 odd here for example) What are the big sticking points price/ not online-wise?

I'll be following whether we stay or move to a new thread and hoping to do some of the vegan recepies!

you didn't miss it arty m'lovely, I'm just never sure how much of the huge amount of nerdy detail I invest in every stage of this into all my posts, I just worry people would switch off :rotfl:.

Basically it's because the fresh fruit daily is very important to James and Kitty, it's the reason they are prepared to go vegan.

Asda do nets of soft citrus, which gives everyone an orange a day :T:T:T

Because some of the nets have 9-10 fruits in, I can do the fruit quota for £11.

However some of the nets have only 3-4 fruits in, and if you click a bag online, they very frequently send you those bags :(

So the only way for kitty to meet her non-negotiable is to shop instore. So she can choose bags with more fruit in.

    Does that make sense?

    Ok weezlie

As I havent seen the new planner I could be talkig out of my bottom here but...

could you not say that the dried goods/tinned items so alot of the shopping can be bought online and then fresh 'top ups' per week are better to be bought in real life??

I personally would find that fine.

It just seemed to me you were banning online shopping whereas you are actually saying people need to be able to see what they are buying, Yes??xx

p.s Obviously I'm talking from the perspective of not having a car-if I did drive I would do it all at once, its just to give people more options and make the planner more accessible. I just dont want Kitty to see the planner and think 'well I cant carry that all home so I wont do it' as straight away there is a barrier in place whehn we may have some metal barriers to overcome anyway IYSWIM?

OK so do I launch a thread called phase 3 or do we stay here? :D

Next steps as I see it:

Tidy up and publish website with the 'meaty' planner

whilst others test the recipes for option 3 (vegan with fresh fruit)?

A couple of questions would really help me:

gmac has pointed out (:A) thanks that people like the ease of online shopping.

I was going to make option 3 a 'you can't do this one online' one, but do people feel this has too many downsides...?

If I have to offer it as an online ordering version, can anyone think of what further cutbacks our vegan planner couple: James and Kitty might be willing to make to accomodate this?

    thanks for any thoughts! :)

I think actual shopping is better than online shopping, for option 3, purly for the fresh fruit / veg aspect of it :D
I dont actually shop on line, as I never have to buy loads, just for me anyway... but do you have to pay for delivery ? Bumping up the budget ?

But if shopping on a regular basis, there isn't so much to carry ;)

    thanks Taka and arty *blushes*

anyone any thoughts on drinks for the vegan planner?

Planner 1 is 'drinks light' 3-4 cuppas a day with double dunking :) but at least there's something.

Are we going to offer kitty anything?

    Hot lemon cordial?

    some sort of herbal tea?

    Hi,

I just wanted to fawn at your feet agian Weezl. My colleagues are all now scoffing the humous and I had your Chickpea Curry the other night. It was grand with a bit of basmati but I nipped into Lidl today to get their 2 Naan breads for 39p on offer to have with the two that are in the freezer. I will look out for the stuff for single folk eagerly. I've only got a wee freezer and it's a bit of a faff sometimes!

Laughing at the earlier poster and her 'I'm not paying that' attitude. My mate is coming over next week and I would normally get a Dine In...now I'm thinking Goodness I could eat for a week for that!!!! Looking forward to seeing what's coming next XXX
