You're the boss ! I am not sure though why you'd want to remove the list, though ? I know we have finished our "official" testing, but as Gmac proved today, there may still be quiet lurkers desperately needing to save money, stumbling across (or being directed to) this thread, and then not being able to proceed without the list, which would be a bit sad :(

I'm sure you know what you are doing though :)
I'm not sure I know what I'm doing allegra ;)

I think I just worry that having the whole month list kind of implies 'buy it all now!' and as you all know I tend to have a bit of a panic about waste:eek::rotfl:. I think it's because I'm so conscious of this being a site where people come to save money. And I'd feel really guilty if I'd published something where people wasted money.

When we were all doing it together, I feel that at least we could say, 'don't worry, lets think of ways to use the carrrots before they go manky..' but I feel sad for poor new users if we're off testing something else, and they've got a bag of liquid onion festering in a back room :(:o.

    Is this making any sense?

I know, I'm too conscientious! But it's the same character trait that makes me do this mad scheme in the first place, so you wouldn't want me to lose it altogether, right? ;)

edit: just read your post gmac, thanks...

Hmmmn I'm in a quandry now!

Do you think people might not think through the storage and then feel angry at what we've provided, or do you think they'll think through the implications?

I know you're good at batch cooking etc, so I don't mean you, but you joining in was exciting, but also a little scary in case someone with no storage bought the lot and had manky carrots and was angry.

I don't mean to make this sound directed at you, I was just reminded of it when you delurked! :T:T:T:T

Pop a disclaimer on the top of the list - something like DO NOT BUY THE WHOLE LOT AT ONCE IF YOU'VE NOWHERE TO STICK IT !!!! should do the trick ;)

Weezl - why not just put up a warning in big bold letters saying...

    A) you'll need a fair bit of storage and freezer space if you want to buy it all in one go
    B) If they buy it all at the start then they'll have to freeze blanched carrots etc to ensure that they are still ok to eat by the end of the month and ensure all egg containing items are baked/cooked and frozen before the eggs go out of date too.
    C) advise that it may be better to buy items likely to go off as they go along if they do not have the freezer space.

Also - Tesco only allow you 10 bags of bread flour (strange!).

We have fallen afoul of that arcane rule of Tesco's once- apparently, you are not allowed to buy more than 10 of any one item unless you arrange it with the customer services a week in advance. We'd attempted to buy a tray of 16 tins of baked beans (as a part of a monthly grocery shop) and the girl at the checkout made us put 6 of them back ! I'd have understood it if we were attempting to buy dozens of every special offer or something, but for the sake of 6 tins of beans.... Went to Asda to get them afterwards, then never shopped in Tesco's since. Well, not until they sent me a code for £10 of online shopping. It would have been rude not to :p

Think a big warning about not buying it all at once is a good idea...can see why you panicked when I said I had bought it all! My daughter (20 months) has been helping me do all the cooking! ;)
Tesco's rule is crazy - never had problem with it before! I refuse to shop at Asda because I do shopping online and their service online is terrible!

OK so do I launch a thread called phase 3 or do we stay here? :D

Next steps as I see it:

Tidy up and publish website with the 'meaty' planner

whilst others test the recipes for option 3 (vegan with fresh fruit)?

A couple of questions would really help me:

gmac has pointed out (:A) thanks that people like the ease of online shopping.

I was going to make option 3 a 'you can't do this one online' one, but do people feel this has too many downsides...?

If I have to offer it as an online ordering version, can anyone think of what further cutbacks our vegan planner couple: James and Kitty might be willing to make to accomodate this?

    thanks for any thoughts! :)

Hi, I have been without internet quite a bit recently so still have loads to catch up on.
Last meal today...... it feels very strange.
I will spend some time tonight working out exact money spent as I have stocked up on a few things in the last couple of days. And probably over the weekend (we are out all day tomorrow)I will write up exactly what my family think now that the month is complete. I did eventually tell them they were part of a social experiment:)
