Sign up to any 12-month SIM only contract from o2, costing at least £25 per month, via a cashback website and you'll qualify for £200 cashback. But you MUST do so by midnight tomorrow (Wednesday 31 March).

As the network's popular SIMplicity contracts offer pretty good value anyway, the cash on top is a serious bonus. By adding it into the equation, over the course of a £25 per month contract's term, the monthly cost will be reduced to just £8.33 per month [(£300 - £200) / 12].

Cashback deals on mobile phones rightfully have a hideous reputation (see Mobile Cashback Help). Yet that's a different type of cashback that requires you to jump through a lot of hoops to get it.

This is about cashback websites, where you simply get paid for signing up to the contract. Even here cashback site cashback is never 100% guaranteed, so our usual line is 'see it as an added bonus, don't pick a product based on it'. But here we know o2 itself is supporting this specific deal so it's unlikely (nothing's impossible) to be a problem. For more on cashback sites see the Best Cashback Sites guide.

[title=http://images2.moneysavingexpert.com/images/dp/wtd_underline.gif]wtd_icon.gif How do I get it?
[/title]

First you'll need to sign up with the TopCashBack* the only site doing the deal. Remember the deal ends midnight Wednesday.

Now you need to click through to o2 via the cashback site's special link, logging in on the way if need be. It'll take you to o2's online shop, where you can buy the contract as you normally would online. Take care to select a 12-month SIMplicity package, not a one-month contract.

If you've previously looked at the o2 SIMplicity deal (either direct or on a comparison site) it's worth clearing your web browser's cookies before going to o2 via the cashback site's link above, as they may interfere with the tracking process. If you don't know how to do this, see the AboutCookies site.

After a few days your cashback account should show that the cashback's tracked.

There are two £25 (£8.33 after cashback) per month contracts: a standard deal and an iPhone/Smartphone tariff.

The standard deal includes 1,200 cross network, any time minutes plus unlimited texts and o2 to o2 OR landline calls.

The iPhone deal includes 900 cross network, any time minutes plus unlimited texts, data and Wi-Fi. If you've got an out of contract iPhone but are still paying the original monthly cost you signed up to, now's the time to slash it. Read the Cheap iPhones deals note for more ways to save on the gadget.

Yet while this deal is undoubtedly incredible value for the right person, it may be a waste of money if you won't use the minutes, texts and add-ons it offers.

Use a comparison site like Onecompare* or Mobilephonechecker* to see if there's another tariff that's more suitable for you before plumping for this, and remember you'll need a decent, unlocked (or o2-locked) handset to put the SIM in.

Read the full Cheap Mobiles guide if you're in the market for a new handset.

The page on the o2 site is currently unavailable - hope this doesn't mean they're pulling the offer...

    Page still unavailable :(
  • Hi guys, it's available for me. Have another go :)
  • Seriously considering this, I can go into my local O2 shop and get and Iphone 3g 8gb for £350 on PAYG, then go online and get this deal and i have an Iphone for with 12 months contract for a total of £450 after taking this into consideration.

Even if the cashback doesnt work (all the other purchases i have made throught these guys has payed) it still works out at £650 total for 12 months, thats just £20 more than there 18month 300mins contract at £630, yet you get 900mins instead of 300.

Does that sound right or have i got it wrong somewhere ? Just fyi i have wanted an Iphone for years.

    Dave.
  • Hi I love the MSE and find it useful but had to register for the forums just to point this out as I :rotfl: seeing this Math... The answer is not really £8.33 / operation gets preference so it is £300 - (£200 / 12) and that is = £183.33 So the sum should be (£300-£200)/12=£8.33
IT is for every one not just those that can see, know how or have a lot of money...

unfortunately it seems I won't be able to take advantage of this cash back offer. :(

I failed o2's automated credit check when I applied for a 12-month SIM only contract. I assume it's because I changed address recently and the electoral roll hasn't been updated yet.

Good luck to everyone else thou.
  • How easy/hard is it to get accepted for SIMplicity if your credit rating is bad...I am considering applying for it but I'm concerned. I was told 02 are pretty hard to get accepted with, although I also heard SIM only deals are easier because (as the name suggests) there is no handset involved....

Feedback would be appreciated ASAP (for obvious reasons) with big thanks in advance!!
  • Can someone help me sort out how I go about transfering my existing O2 number over to this deal as my contract has ended (assuming I can buy a new phone separately)?
Or would I be better forgetting about this deal & going for an ungrade as I need a new phone anyway? The internet option sounds like a good deal for me as I use the internet on my phone - heard good things about HTC phones or maybe a Sony as I've had them before and liked them.
Thank you for any help as I'm a bit clueless about phones at the moment!

I've just done exactly this. (although not with such a good deal.. sigh..) It's fairly painless these days.

Phone 202 on your exisitng mobile and ask customer services for a PAC code. They may try and offer you a deal to stay, but unless you've been on an expensive contract for a while, it's unlikely that they will be able to beat this one. The code will arrive by text within two (working) days.

Sign up for the new Simplicity deal via the cashback site.

When you get the new SIM in the post, it will have a new telephone number - don't worry: Put it in your phone and dial 202 again, tell them you want to migrate your old number and you have a PAC code. They'll take the code and start things moving.

Put your old sim back in and carry on using it until you suddenly get a "SIM registration failed" message pop up on your phone. This can again take a couple of days. That's it, your old contract is now finished. Put the new SIM in the phone, and it should now have your old number. This might take a couple of hours to happen after the old one dies, and you might need to power cycle the phone for it to re-register and notice...

You end up paying rental for both contracts for the few days overlap, but that's not a lot at these prices.
