What a fantastic thread! You really know how to make a girl smile :rotfl:
I cut the ends off tubes to get the very last drop of moisturiser, make-up, toothpaste, etc. Have also been known to combine the ends of old lipsticks to make my own unique colours. I do the old swish in bottles, cans, etc. And I use the water from the dryer in the iron. Nothing as ingenious as what has gone before though
Ooh what a fab idea, i`ve never thought of using the water from the dryer!
thats going on my list of things to take on board !!
thanks for that:beer:Going it alone and feeling the pinch

[Not advisable if you are hoping to get lucky;) Most of my tights are patterned or coloured ones from primark sales so i hardly have any that match. That would scare my husband anyway if I did the saving the leg thing ]
:rotfl:I laughed at that Sarahsaver!:T

I hate buying the kitchen cleaning sprays so I use an empty one and put a squirt of stardrops, a squirt of bleach and fill it up with water - It works fab. and costs a few pence.0

We have a games night one evening a week - board games so a side effect of this is that only one room has to be heated and the TV and freeview/hd recorder are not munching electricity.
Does anyone else hand down their (adult) clothes to their kids? My Dd is actually really pleased to have one of my ruunning tops, and several t shirts which on her are fashionably baggy.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Oh my God! My mum used to do this all the time when we were little and cash was tight. Sometimes it would take her a while to find two 'legs' the same colour. Am sure on some occasions she would have one leg darker than the other!Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
Instead of skimming homemade stock (after straining) and risking losing some of the good stuff, I use my gravy skimming jug. It takes a while but is well worth it in the end. I'm sure you waste less!:wave:0

The other thing I am paranoid about is clothes pegs. I honestly believe that if I hang an item of washing with different coloured pegs I will bring down flood and pestilence on out house! The kids think it's hilarious to keep muddling them up and have me running in and out of the garden all day. I have resolved to buy plain wooden ones in future.
I've done this sometimes with the bubble wrap.
The thing that struck a chord with me was the clothes peg thing. I had to get rid of my red pegs, as I was paranoid about hanging an item of clothing out with a white and a red peg. It stems from not taking red and white flowers to hospital (one of my late Mother's superstitions). I think that's got something to do with blood and bandages (possibly death) I don't know, but it's stuck with me.
No-one seems to mention things like turning collars, sides-to-middling sheets and that sort of thing - to me, that is proper OS! (not that I do it.....!)
I have a friend who cuts old hand towels in half, overlocks the cut edge, then crochets onto that and adds a button. Voila, you have a brand new hanging kitchen towel. They only ever wear in the middle, why not?:wave:0 -
DD's granny side to middled sheets and when they were worn out cut them down into baby sheets just big enough for the cot or pram, DS still uses one to help him sleep at night but it is now a bit tatty;)
I don't think the collars on many modern shirts are good enough quality to turn them!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
