We have also just recently signed up at our local go-bowling for a fun club membership which entitles him to games for £1.75 but not only him but who ever is booked with him. We were told at the venue filled out a form saying which group he belonged to etc.
  • Quite a few places do give free entry for carers of Disabled People.... You do have to ask when you pay though...

Castle Howard in Yorks does.... if you ask....

    And Rome Zoo

Rather Random but the two I know of !

not so much a discount, more general information

In Manchester, blue badge holders can park in NCP car parks and P&D bays for free (without a time limit) if they display their badge properly

The general rules for parking on yellow lines (I think the holders of a badge get a lot of information relating to the available options) apply - 3 hours max

we had more unpublished discounts at the weekend, its how you ask for a discount thats important, we ask for one disabled, one carer and one child and we normally get charged much less than the advertised rates.

I am visably disabled which may come into it for us but ask first and show proof if asked for it, we got charged 2 adult rates at the weekend for me, my husband, his brother and our son when there were no consessions the admissions boards.

Everywhere I can think of offers concessions for disabled people and their carers.

We have been to endless zoos and theme parks and I have always gone in free. My son does not look disabled either. Bewilderwood in Norfolk never asked for proof, just put it through.

I recently spoke to Butlins as we have never been able to see the entertainment because he will not queue for an hour to get in and they told me I could go to a side door and Security would let us in early so we could get a seat. So next time I am going to go and get a seat and hubby is going to come back later with him, but we have always missed shows because everyone queues so early.

You can get free prescriptions if you have a continuing physical disability which means you can't go out without help from another person and have a valid MedEx - you can get the form from your GP.

Some people have said you have to be on HRM or MRC / HRC DLA - this is not true.

I have a MedEx card that is due to expire. I phoned my GP to get a form to renew my card and they didn't know anything about the forms or where I could get one from!!

If you are not visually disabled then it is best to bring along your DLA or council card as proof. I once had someone say that I was cheating the system by claiming my partner as my carer because she could not see that I was disabled. I felt insulted that I had to explain myself to someone with little knowledge of mental health who felt she could diagnose someone on the spot to say that they are not mentally disabled!!!! This would put of a less assertive disabled person who would just never go there again or even try any other place. That would have been what I would have been like many years ago.

When I first realised that I was disabled (serverly mentally BiPolar Type I) I did not see why I would get all these benefits. But now I am using them I can really see how it reduced my stress and illness. I am less likely to relapse because I don't stress about getting out of the house to restamp or return my library book. We can afford for my partner to go on family days out when normally I would not be able to go on my own because I get extra stressed and anxious during days out with the children. I take the bus during the school run with my disabled pass meaning that I am not anxious about going by car and having to drive in the rush hour and find impossible places to park near the school.

With the benefits and help as a disabled person it has greatly helped me to stay relatively stable for the past 7 years. Before I would relaspe and spend months or weeks in hospital costing the tax payer LOADS of money. So on the whole I think the disabled benefits is saving the money.

I am looking to return to work on a flexible bases so that I can work on my well days/moments and not work when I am not able to.

I've just found out I can get a registration card from my council. Whilst it doesn't do anything in itself, it means I can wave it at people who think I'm too young to have arthritis

I wish my council did those, it appears they don't. I am 29 and also have arthritis (among a whole load of other things) - I know I limp etc because of it but I still don't feel like people think I am suffering as much as I am because of my age.
