    Xmas Saver!
maybe a stupid question, but, do you need to have qualified for the "carers" conponent to benefit from a carer to gain either free or discounted entry at attractions?

I get hrm but low rate care, so I don't meet the needs of having a carer as such, but when out do need help, I'm on crutches and the way I stand / walk gives it away, but have never had anyone quering the careers side. When we went on Buckfastleigh steam train, there was me and my daughter (shes 7) they gave her the carers rate, as she got my handbag and helps with the crutches etc when I need the loo...
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • dont think the "radar key" has been mentioned as yet, the key to over 7000 public toilets, not got one myself as yet, but a brill idea.

OMG you guys have no idea how lucky you are. My Son is severely disabled on higher care and we get nothing at all like this.
It doesn't help much that I live in quite a rural area but I have asked in cinema and they look at me as if I am stupid and tell me there are no discounts for disabled and carers.
He rarely goes out of the house due to a bowel condition he has as well as severe social issues but it would be nice to have the choice.
It costs so much to try and keep him entertained I simply cant do it.
But good on you guys wish i was in a possition were I could get things like that. xxx

We have the merlin annual pass our son is aspergers/ADHD he is entitled to a free carers pass which can be used by anyone he goes with he only pays for one pass which we renewed this year for £75 so £75 for 2 annual passes. these are normally £150 or renewal £100. My husband then used tesco rewards vouchers for another £37.50. His DLA letter is also used as evidence he has difficulty queing so he gets a wrist band and 4 other for carers to use this is at alton towers at thorpe park you get a card for the big rides they mark the que time then you can't go on another ride until that time so best checking with the different attractions

It is very sad you are having such difficulty finding any of this information and yes maybe it is because you are rural so less opportunity to get to some of the venus with your child but my son is also on the higher rate care and lower mobility so you should be entitled to these benefits and thankyou to this site for highlighting these benefits so others can find out about them and how to get them as we have found most of this info is found by chance from going to meetings and groups and shared but if you are unable to get to these groups from caring for a severely disabled child this can be very difficult
