Welcome Lulu - I am sure you will get it all organised in time. If you try on a wedding dress you like you could always ask if you could buy the sample and then get it ordered to fit. When I picked my dress up last weekend there was a lady who was recently engaged and getting married this July and she bought the sample for £200 less than brand new and the shop paid for it to be cleaned and she was paying for alterations.
In relation to table decorations do you have a dunhelm mill or a range shop near you as they do lovely decorations you could use.

We are making good progress I am pleased to report. I ordered the BM dresses from America as it was much cheaper to do so, even with the shipping and the duties. So far I am using Netbride and they have been wonderful. I looked for ages on the internet trying to find a negative review and couldn't find any!

We've done the invite design and got quotes in from printers. I'm just off today to pick up a sample. OH has ordered his ring and I am ordering mine today. I did almost all the research for the wedding website - we've had to put loads of travel and hotel info up there as 2/3 of our guests are travelling.

Still got to meet up with the DJ and the Revs but otherwise going well. Less than 3 weeks until I leave for Uganda though to do some studying there. I won't be back until June, so I need to get the big things sorted now.

Good luck Lulu, you'll be fine. Have you thought about looking at sample sales for your dress? That way you can take the dress home that day and it doesn't have to be ordered. You can usually get a significant discount, mine was £400 reduced from £1000.

How exciting MrO about the new arrival!! Hope things go really smoothly with the birth.

  • Hi All! I've ordered my dress & booked the venue & registrar. Lulu - we got engaged 30th Jan, & getting married 27th Aug. So we're about 8 weeks ahead of you, but don't worry, I'm sure you have plenty of time!

I'd start looking at dresses asap! I chose mine and ordered it on the first day I tried any on, because she said that it would take 12 weeks to arrive. I'd recommend that you tell the shops your time span when you call & see if they will be able to get your dress in time, or if they are doing a sample sale. They did say that they can rush the order fir an extra fee. There are a few shops which also sell "off the peg" (I'm in Manchester pm me if that's near & you want any tips). Also, specialist charity shops will let you take home the dress the same day! Or try Preloved, eBay or other sites for second hand dresses (just google). Hope that helps!

Good Luck Mr O & everyone else!

PS Lara44 - I'm off to google Netbride, thanks!

My other half ordered his suits today and I managed to talk him into ordering top hats too to look extra specially dapper! :)
  • welcome to the group Lulu, its good to have another one aboard. Its good to hear everybodies plans are going well, i'm supposed to go for suit fitting in next couple of weeks. Starting to have second thoughts about the suit combination. We were looking at dark jacket with the traditional strip trouser, ivory waist coat with stitched pattern and roush to match BM dresses. the other option would be a grey suit. Any thoughts or advise?

I've had a productive day. Visited a shop that had samples and bought a dress!!! It's gorgeous, not one I picked out but the lady at the shop did, when I tried it on I loved it. Just needs taking up a bit as I'm short. Plus ordered the purple waistcoat online for my OH - think he was feeling left out. Still lots to do though. Invitations next I think....

Yay Lulu for getting your dress!!!

MrO - my OH got a grey suit with a dark pinstripe which looks really nice. He is getting an ivory shirt and got a lovely purple tie to match the bm's dresses.
  • think i'm going to rope my best man in for second opinion before the proper suit fittings, i think he's had it easy so far with regards to helping me out lol.
My other half decided on a sample dress, saved her a few quid. Think i'll have a ride out and deliver the rest of the invites 2moz.

Am so chuffed as we've had a big weddingy weekend so just wanted to drop in and share what we've been up too. Since Friday we've been to the vicarage to sign our banns notification, ordered the mens suits, booked our honeymoon, bought wedding insurance, visited reception venue to sort a couple of bits, been over finances to check we're on track, arranged with our local church to have the banns read there (as we're getting married in a different parish) and planning to buy bridesmaid dresses tomorrow. Phew!
Next stop - getting the invited printed! Hurrah!
