Im going to make some for my h2b to make him feel better. Do i really need to use 1kg of sugar?

    Thanks

No, you probably need to use about 2kg, maybe more, or there won't be any left for tomorrow... ;)

None of which were mine, so ...

    BUTTER TABLET

The famous Scottish confection. Make the WeightWatchers and dentist appointments first.

    INGREDIENTS

    60g of butter
    3½ tablespoons of condensed milk.
    500g of sugar
    170ml of water
    Butter for greasing

    METHOD

Put all the ingredients in a large saucepan on a medium heat until the butter has melted and sugar has dissolved.

Bring the mixture to the boil. It is important to stir the mixture continuously at this point so that it doesn't stick to the bottom of the pan.

Turn down the heat until it is just boiling (simmering) for approximately 10 minutes. The mixture should be thick and the colour should have turned from white to caramel.

Take the pan from the hob and place it on a heat resistant surface for about 5 minutes.

Grease a flat tin with the butter.

After the 5 minutes beat the mixture really hard. At this point it will start to set.

Before the mixture sets, use a wooden spoon to transfer it into the prepared tin. You will find it sets almost straight away. Before it has completely set, cut the mixture into bite sized "tablets",

Leave it for 5 minutes to cool and set hard.

Take the pieces from the tin and store them in an airtight container (as if they're going to last long enough to go off!).
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
  • Thanks for the recipe Stephen. I was looking for a recipe because I want to make tablet for christmas. Is it your own recipe or an old family one?

Sorry - i didnt mean a recipe I meant one with more flavours (for example mint, strawberry, nuts etc). Perhaps just best to do some test runs and throw some ingrediants in at the end!

Yeah that's what i would do ! Make a "regular batch" and experiment with half - try some mint flavouring in a batch, or chuck in some nuts. I would just see how it works out! :) Do let us know if you try . im drooling!:D
