  • I had a scales that will straighforward weigh up to I think 18-19 stone, but will only work out body fat % on a person weighing I think 15 stone or under or 30% body fat. Can't remember which.

The one I use DEFINITELY measures above 30% body fat :o

not sure if it measures for people above 15stone though - would presume so - I'll dig out the manual later on and have a little looksy for you :)

good luck today with the rest of today everyone!

    ...Salter electronic weighing scale....

(thanks for that Tara :) ran up and down the stairs to check)..extra cardio for the day :)

    It measures

    water percentage

    lean body mass percentage

    & body fat

as well as weight and BMI

I avoid tape measures as again these can be "fooled" by the bloating or water stored during the cycle and are quite depressing if you're larger.

My digital scales measure most of those things too, but I gave up on the body fat % as it varied wildly from day to day.
biggest things to watch for me (everyone is different) are...

    body fat %
carbs (simple and complex - not refined (and in definite MODERATION)
protein (include at every meal (lean unprocessed) helps keep you fuller for longer and encourages the body to shed more fat/water)
calories (depends on your current weight how many you need per day)
water - (depends on your current weight how much you need to sup :))

exercise - (lean muscle mass burns more calories - so burns more fat even when RESTING!! - so definitely include a strength training regime)

You are being very scientific about it, which is what I need to do, instead of all this emotional eating!! Thanks for the reminder about the lean protein. It's quite hard to include it at breakfast, but I have started having a boiled egg every morning and that helps.

Tara, Dear I'm so sorry things are still tough. It must be tough for your OH too, :(. Perhaps you guys can try something different to help your relationship. You are so lovely. Relationships can have blips, but sometimes things need to change somewhere to get things functioning well again. :) Good luck Dear Thing.

Thanks so much for your kind words LIR, I am touched by your concern. I may PM you about it all sometime if you don't mind reading about all my woes... and the same goes for you. :) I'm optimistic that we'll work things out in the end.

    Of course I don't mind.

we've all become good friends, and one should at the very least be a good ear for a friend. :)

You could try a homemade protein shake (whey protein) only needs a handblender and a few extras (don't worry it's not all raw egg yolks :) in fact none)...

Also Low Fat Cottage cheese with extras

boiled eggs are a good idea - but variety helps avoid slip ups :)

thevickster and helenhelen congratulations! Keep it up.
Tara 747 I hope things are better at home, wishing you a really good week.

I weighed in today and have lost just 0.6 lb so far, better than nothing I suppose, I must eat better this week.

I too use salter "bodyfat scales", Tara could yours be replaced under warranty?
  • Day one of the whole new me almost done! :T I've stuck to my plan 100% so far, but the day's not done! I've still got to get to bed time!! ;) I did day one of my jog/walk plan this morning, then went to a local park intending to sit in the sun and do some reading for uni, but I went in at the wrong end and ended up on a 50 minute trek across the fields/hills - all calories being zapped!! :j Although, my hip joints are so sore tonight I can hardly walk! :o

Well done thevicster that's a phenomenal loss!! :j :T  Was that your first week sticking to a healthier eating/exercise plan? Sometimes that can give you a huge loss, or it could be a delayed loss if a. flow happened to have paid a visit recently!! Otherwise it might well be the Wii scales - did you use them in the same spot as before? I'm sure I heard someone say before that they actually work best on a wooden floor, or on a wooden board if you don't actually have a wooden floor! :p

Hope you've all had a great day!!

    xx

    Good morning everyone,
Last night I was bad: I fancied something sweet and ate 1/3 jar of apricot jam then loads of raisins. I know raisins aren´t so bad as they are full of fibre, but even so, I must have consumed around 900 calories on my sweet fix (TTOM cravings). Anyway, what´s done is done. I think I am going to have to go back to keeping a food diary again to try and keep myself on track.
    Have a good day everyone.

Valentina , hope you brushed you teeth really well! I always thought I had a sweet tooth, but jam from the jar would be too sweet for me!

Morning all! I did my sneaky Tuesday WI today, 137.1lbs! So that's 1.8lbs lighter than yesterday (does everyone else weigh more on a Monday or is it just me????). :rotfl: Anyway, am going to write my weight down and stick it on the fridge at home so that I see it all the time.

I did lots of walking yesterday, about 2.5 hours in all - but also ate quite a bit. I have no idea why I keep sabotaging myself, I really need to stop eating chocolate and biscuits. I don't even like eating all that stuff, it really makes me feel ill if I overindulge. So I have written down exactly how it made me feel (sick, ashamed, slightly jittery with the rise in blood sugar etc) and will look at this every time I have a craving for something sweet.

Thanks for the tip. I did buy some whey protein powder for H&B but have lost the tin lol!

I hate cottage cheese unfortunately, it reminds me of cat puke (sorry if anyone's having their breakfast!). I wonder if I could try some way to make it more appetising and less lumpy. Also, ricotta is very tasty with pasta etc and low in cals.

Thanks marie2. :) I might see about exchanging the scales, it is very annoying that they won't measure body fat, that is why I bought them...

Well done on the loss btw!! :T

vicster, I missed your amazing loss in all the posts yesterday, WOW. Well done missy!!!! :j:j
