Beanie - that's great!
And so is your STS Victory - you are so disciplined all the time, a role model for us all.0 -
A gain of 0.2 kg from last week. Now 75.4 kg.
I don't know why. I just don't seem able to get below the 75 kg mark - have been hovering around 75.6 kg for weeks and weeks, then got to 75.2 kg, now up a little bit. No idea why.
Swimming this week - a crash course at the little pool I go to. Swimming lessons every evening. I can now kick and do the back-stroke properly, so that's an achievement.
We went to Tiptree on Sunday afternoon - Wilkin's the Jam-makers' tea-rooms - I had one slice of iced carrot cake. I don't normally eat cake at all and that was the first 'treat' I'd had for ages. People have been complaining about chocolate and Easter - well, my Easter did not contain any chocolate. One slice of cake in months....Calorie intake kept to 1100 - 1200 a day. I don't 'binge-eat' or 'comfort-eat'. No biscuits, no fast foods, no takeaways, no ready-meals. I'm still stuck.

I would highly suspect that having such a low calorie intake has forced your body to go into starvation mode
Why does a very low calorie intake slow down weight loss?
Quite simply, your body goes into 'starvation mode'. This mechanism, which is thought to have evolved as a defence against starvation, means the body becomes super efficient at making the most of the calories it does get from food and drink. The main way it does this is to protect its fat stores and instead use lean tissue or muscle to provide it with some of the calories it needs to keep functioning. This directly leads to a loss of muscle, which in turn lowers metabolic rate so that the body needs fewer calories to keep ticking over and weight loss slows down. Of course, this is the perfect solution if you're in a famine situation. But if you're trying to lose weight, it's going to do little to help you shift those unwanted pounds.0 -
0,2 of a pound is?? i have no idea about ounces--i tried to even spell it with a z!--a kilo is 2 point 2 pounds.
i seem to be under the (misbelief) idea' that if i can reduce my calorie intake and exercise i can burn the fat by depriving my body of it's source food and 'eating' away at the fat store--i am intaking pure protein when i eat with no fats-also fruit and veg --the packets here dont show you calories --maybe why people are so 'round'!-and i cant calory count easily(whats the calories in a bowl of chick beans??)--i feel hungry periodically and believe this is a good sign--coupled with this burning i think i am learning to change my metabolic requirement for calories--i dont want to hit a wall and want to start out well and be rational with my diet that can be sustained unlike previous back tracks to over weight! -i also drink lots of water as a part of this -unlike before!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -

Eric - God love you, I really like that one! Well done on the loss again this week, looks like you're still on track.
Mazza, De1amo, Beanie, BB great losses guys, well done!
Margaret - How frustrating for you. You've been working away at that 75kg mark for so long now. I wonder, do you eat similar foods each week, or do you have a lot of variety? I find that if I eat different foods, and change my menu around a bit, it can have a positive impact. I think I read once that our body's digestive system can become sluggish and lazy if it has to digest the same foods at the same time. Your calorie intake seems quite low too. We all deserve a little treat sometimes, so I hope you enjoyed your carrot cake... heck, it has vegetables in it, so must even count to one of your 5 a day!
Well, not that I was expecting huge results this week, but I did think that as I'd been having smaller portions and moving around much more that I'd do more than a STS. Building up to TOTM in a few days, which will mean that I'll be in the midst of it next week, so who knows? I'll keep sticking at it, and hope for the best though. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
Thank you, Eric. You seem to speak from some knowledge. So what kind of calorie intake do you suggest for a woman of 74, nearly 75, who's not quite 5 feet tall and not very active?
I agree about the muscle loss. Much of this happens as a result of age, starting in one's 30s. I do chair-based keep-fit at home following Rosemary Conley's and Leanne Grose's DVDs and I use 1 kg dumbells and stretch tubing.
PS: I do try to eat 'quality' rather than 'quantity', that's why I don't eat pre-prepared meals, biscuits etc. Also, some while ago I spoke to the Nurse Practitioner at our local surgery who runs weight control sessions. She thought I should be keeping to 1200 calories/day.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
