Lose weight 29

0,2 of a pound is?? i have no idea about ounces--i tried to even spell it with a z!--a kilo is 2 point 2 pounds.
i seem to be under the (misbelief) idea' that if i can reduce my calorie intake and exercise i can burn the fat by depriving my body of it's source food and 'eating' away at the fat store--i am intaking pure protein when i eat with no fats-also fruit and veg --the packets here dont show you calories --maybe why people are so 'round'!-and i cant calory count easily(whats the calories in a bowl of chick beans??)--i feel hungry periodically and believe this is a good sign--coupled with this burning i think i am learning to change my metabolic requirement for calories--i dont want to hit a wall and want to start out well and be rational with my diet that can be sustained unlike previous back tracks to over weight! -i also drink lots of water as a part of this -unlike before!
1kg = 2.2 lbs 0.1kg = 0.22 lbs
nobody bothers with ounces we kind of cheat by using 1/10ths rather than ounces so 3.7lbs is 3 lbs and 7/10ths (or 70%) of a lb if that makes sense
your loss of 2.2lbs/1kg is perfect for a person in your weight range any more and you can risk going into starvation mode, I can loose more only because I'm so ****ing massive, my maintenance calorie intake is 3950 a day
ALL diets no matter what they say work by reducing your calorie intake, some do it obviously by calorie counting, some so it more subtly like WW and SW where they replace calories with an easier to follow points/syns system and some try to come up with a system that just encourages you to eat less calories.
so if energy used is more than energy eaten you will need to make up the deficit from somewhere and that comes form body fat, however push to far the body will just go into starvation mode, thats why its important to be flexible with how and when you eat and also exercise as the body has a habbit of getting into a routine.
for the moment I would just carry on doing what you are doing0 -
despite my over indulgence in everything bad and no exercise til now i have gained only 6lbs since last june -i am now back to that weight after 3 months of not drinking and a week on diet--i have been a real glutton for bread / bakery products --plus drinking loads of coffee with full cream uht---i am missing those 2 things badly--and have cut down drastically on them in this diet--i have been eating a loaf a day (500grs)-and 8 to 10 coffees-i am guessing if i cut down on all these nasties and exercise i can lose weight!---i can summise that my general diet cant be that calory laden--in 4 years of being here and living like that i have not had a net gain!mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0

I agree about the muscle loss. Much of this happens as a result of age, starting in one's 30s. I do chair-based keep-fit at home following Rosemary Conley's and Leanne Grose's DVDs and I use 1 kg dumbells and stretch tubing.
PS: I do try to eat 'quality' rather than 'quantity', that's why I don't eat pre-prepared meals, biscuits etc. Also, some while ago I spoke to the Nurse Practitioner at our local surgery who runs weight control sessions. She thought I should be keeping to 1200 calories/day.
I would certainly take a qualified nurse's opinion over anything a nerdy geek like me says
This site gives a reasonable guide to calorie intake, and i suspect it is going to confirm what you have been told.

From my experience the reduction in muscle is not so much a natural thing but more down to the lack of use and exercise as we age, Governor Arnie is in his 60s and still massively muscular because he trains extensively. Of course there will come a point where this is not possible.
From what you say it sounds like you are doing everything perfectly, unfortunately I have not yet read up on weight loss / exercise for the more mature person. All I can recommend is speak to you nurse which kinda makes me useless0 -
My father is 82 and has lost most of his muscle mass despite gardening every day for 6 hours--it just seems he is waisting away--my mother is 80 and still carrying a lot of weight--she bowls nearly every day and watches my father in the garden--i am not sure if there is a typical way weight and old age connects--my father has always gardened and my mother didnt bowl til she was retired--they eat exactly the same diet but obviously have different metabolisms.
that calculator you sent was useful eric--with my exercise regime -i can reduce weight on a callory intake of 1953--now just how to guess with all this foreign food how much that corrulates tomfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
Hi all
Well, I was quite worried about weighing in this morning, but thankfully I can report in with a STS for Superman and I. I'm pleased with that because I haven't been weighing myself, and I must admit to taking my eye off the ball a bit over easter - we were very self controlled and resisted buying any chocolate or hot cross buns, but sadly we were given easter eggs and it would have been rude not to eat them (we thoroughly enjoyed them too - the chocolate in Spain isn't great and we hadn't had any lovely Cadbury's for ages!).
We've declared Day One today - we've got 8 weeks to go before the wedding of the year, and I want to lose another stone by then. I've still got to find an outfit, but I've been putting it off because I want to be in a smaller size.
Well done for all the results this week. :T
Catch you later,

there a real problem, nuts and olives / olive oils are extremely healthy foods to eat
but there also energy dense so you do not need to eat many to get a lot of calories ..0 -
i just have 1 olive when i am hungry!--now---keeps me ticking over for a couple of hours--i tend to grab a small handful of nuts and on the calorfic values that looks the worst thing i could be doing!!--my wife bought 200grs of a mix of hazlenuts and almonds so the worse two--you can buy a kg of almonds for 4 quid,
im enjoying my day of rest-i might go for a sauna and a paddle later but nothing much--i have students who need my wisdom so i can burn the calories with pacing lolmfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0 -
