I've got the haricot beans soaking ready to make my own baked beans this morning.
I also bought peas at the same time. I love mushy peas and on the face of it, they would be much the same nutritionally as the home made beans so i'll have a look at that as well (although I dont fancy baked potato and peas).
My own weight timeline was 14st 7lb at 17, passed driving test, got a job and was 18st7lb within a year. I was taking my piece to work and also getting something from the chip shop at lunch.
I left there at 21 and started where I am now. Probably been between 21 st and current weight for 10 years now (now 36).
The jobs have always involved a bit of walking and physical work, problem is theres more time to get bored and eat with access to plenty of shops etc as it's outside. So when the boredom kicks in, its food time.
Got a family membership to the local authority gym a couple of years ago. Wife gets her classes free which covers the costs and then the kids get a lot out of it too (classes, creche, courts etc). It also covers us for all the swimming pools in our area.
The nearest gyms only around 500 metres away too so it's virtually on my doorstep.

well done on the baked beans--you will save a fortune as well!
my boom in weight happened because of alcohol and a crap diet due to the fact i was cooking for myself--i can eat anything on a very repetitive scale--i would eat the same 3 meals --spag bol--pasta tuna bake -and bread plaice with jacket potato and peas--all were oversized portions and i ate that diet for 3 years!--i thought i was doing well because i never picked between meals!!-must have been zillions of calories in that lot!----bread is another fatal floor in my life--i love bread and know it is fattening--i am stopping it now!!
i have never been successful at loosing weight without exercise--for me its the only way to go--so you get to that gym--start slowly but be focused on the goal--sitting around looking at gym equipment or paddling in the pool wont eat the calories!--scots did you see the dieting section for men from the main thread--some of those guys were unrecognisable after there diets--in the best way---i saw photos of me last summer and was appalled!!--my wife has posted them on my desk top to frighten me!!
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

Do you still play? My fiance smoked when I met him, and on a raid he'd find he got through a pack without noticing. When he decided to quit he changed the location of the computer, a mental fresh start, and found it really helped him delink the two activities. He went from 40 a day to 0 overnight cold turkey, so I always think if he could do that then I should be able to loose a few pounds!

    Hiya all,

I am back...I have been having major issus with my PC being infected..so I have been hogging the techie board..

I have not read all the posts yet, I will have to do that later this evening, but I just felt that I need to post, I haven't been posting because my mum was not well and also the main reason is because I have felt guilty with the way I have been eating...I have put on a stone in the space of about a month...a whole STONE can you believe it...I can as I know what I have been eating...but I have to get back on the wagon as I don't wanna put another stone on..so I am now heavier than when I started....I feel like to cry..

Anyway I need to pull myself up..can I please be blanked..or zero'ed from the chart fred? I will on Tuesday based on my weight today, as I am restarting..

I hope everyone is well, I will catch up with the posts later

    Take care

except smoking has no benefit what so ever, where as we all need to eat so i think this is completely different. And you are not able to exercise becasue of a serious knee problem.

Had a solid nights sleep last night which is very unsual but hopefully has done me good. Unfortunately woke to a flooded kitchen incl electrics - end of a long 6 week saga with our 3 yr old boiler. Upshot is I have to spend £2 on a new boiler:mad:. I highly recommend no on ever buys a Ferroli boiler: their customer service is atrocious.

Just had scrambed eggs for brekkie - still not wanting to eat loads of bad stuff, so thanks deebee for the offer a 6 weekly booster: perhaps you are the secret ingredient:D
    I lurve tannock tea cakes.

welcome back katmad: does sound a little low calorie wise but I am so inexpert at this sort of thing and others here know much more than me.

Sorry to hear your mum has been ill QT: that is very stressful.

Scotsman and de1amo you both sound focussed and determined to up the exercise too:T
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

    Total - 1460
I walk to and from work every day, burning around 200 cals a day
so total after that is only 1260

    Is that enough?

Hi Katmad & welcome! Have you worked out your BMR and approx daily calorie needs to maintain your present weight?

Example if you require 2000 cals/day to maintain your weight, then a sensible deficit to lose weight would be around 300 cals/day (15% reduction), so you'd be looking at 1700/day intake. Going lower than this would risk a reduction in your metabolic rate, so you'd be eating less but creating no more of a calorie deficit than if you were eating more, if that makes sense!

Holy cow! I haven't been here for a couple of days and there was about 5 pages of lively banter to catch up on, and lots of lovely newbies.

Hello, and welcome to : Scotsman, and De1amo and welcome back QT, Deebee and Katmad.

BB - glad you're feeling much better. Take it easy, and stick with the sensible eating. Sounds like Delly brought you a bit of dellybelly huh?

Eric - I love your motivational poster technique of GB. Can we expect this to be a regular post? If so, could you make the next pin-up a bit more muscular please, I like them like that, although I am lucky enough to have my own live pin-up at home :D and yes, I probably should be much more motivated to get fitter/slimmer with him about, but he just makes me drool, and then I eat!!

I've been attempting to keep a bit more busy and active these past couple of days, hence I've not been online. Must remember to check in each evening here though, as it's taken me half of the morning to catch up on the thread. Foodwise it's been so-so. Could try harder. Have decided my chocolate blow-out has to end now, after the past week, and focus on the summer weight I now want to aim for. I feel I've wasted the past 3 months expecting the weight to fall off with no real effort from me to do so. I have developed a slightly dodgy right knee, where it feels very tight over the top, especially when I kneel. I wonder if I twisted it, or if prolonged periods of standing for several hours a day have aggravated it recently? I can recall hurting it anyway.
One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Enjoy your coleslaw Marion! Surely it will taste differently from your winning machine? And if it doesn't you could maybe £bay it? (the machine, not the coleslaw ..... or maybe ......)

BB I don't have a sticker for you but ....

    WOW

    you certainly deserve one!
