lo all! I'm back from the wars!!
not even going to try and catch up, been mental busy! 30s horror was fab, all meals served on time and much appreciated; Warwick Castle was wet and cold, and there's some horrific pictures of me which may spur me on, you never know.
hope you've all had a fabulous easter!!0 -
Welcome back Tagz! Well done on your loss so far!
Hi Scotsman and welcome to the thread, good luck with your weight loss.
De1amo, the 'ranges' on the BMI chart account for things like different frame size. For example there's a two stone range in the 'healthy' zone for my height, which is quite a lot either way and a decent guide for most of the population (with certain specific exceptions as Eric mentioned - and most BMI charts do state this limitation).
The best thing for target setting IMO is to go by how YOU feel and what fits best with your lifestyle, not by other people's comments or by numbers on charts.
Eric is spot on with his answer about targeting areas for fat loss - can't be done, unfortunately! You can work on the stomach muscles as much as you like though, and you'll hopefully begin to see the results as the body fat reduces. Don't forget any muscle work you do, you then have to keep doing if you want to maintain it, so it needs to be sustainable.

:o That isn't for the chart Fred, I'm not ready yet.
Granny I know how you feel. I have put on weight too.
Goodness me what a lot of posts since I checked in yesterday afternoon!
Welcome to all the newbies! Hope your heads are in better places than mine :rotfl:
I love this board, I read all the advice (and banter!) with such interest...just hopefully it will sink in and I'll start doing more of it soon :rotfl::p
Thanks for the advice re scales Eric and Vixstar.
As I'm not doing too well with just trying to follow a "eat less (and more healthily) and move more" kind of regime, I am wondering if perhaps joining WW or SW would help to motivate me. I know some of you do these: what do you think??
The sun is shining here today and it makes me feel so much more positive! :j0 -
Oh, and thank you for the Gerard Butler pic. Swooooon!!! And Eric I agree with SWMBO - he has got the balance between skinny and buff just right. Yum yum!0

Gosh you guys have been busy today  that was a lot of catching up I had to do.
Thanks Missy, Victory and Beanie for your words of encouragement and a big thank you to Fredsnail for the chart :T
I decided that today I would goto my happy place so got in the car drove to the beach and did a mega stomp up the beach again in half the time I did it last time (When my mum was rushed into hospital in january) so my fitness must have improved since thenBut I had a good time to think about things and decide how to progress further. I AM NOT GIVING UP IT IS NOT GOING TO BEAT ME!!!!!!!!!
It was so sunny and warm today I wish I had taken my wetsuit and board as the surf looked inviting but it is still far to cold for me  A few more weeks and I will be in on a regular basis I hope.
I have read the information on Plateau's and think I need to increase my exercise as playing around with my calories didn't make any difference apart from make me hungry.
Welcome to the 3 newbies I wish you good luck with your weightloss journeys xRestarting C25K in 2014 - Week 8 - 1/3 completed

counting calories is the easiest and most boring weight loss system, its just a case of making a list of everything you eat, what it weighs and how many calories it has, in the UK we are lucky now as just about all food is marked up (if its not you know its bad for you) I have a little program on my phone that makes it easy to do this.
so a typical dinner for me would be
100% lean rump steak 297g - 422 cal
light olive oil 10g - 88 cal
potatoes 495g - 356 cal
mushrooms 175g - 38 cal
total for meal 904 cals
you just add up everything you eat and make sure it does not exceed you daily allowance for calories in my case 1750
a normal man should eat 2500 calories a day, they recommend that you reduce this to 2000 calories a day to start with which should give you 1 - 2 lb a week loss
That sounds too much like hard work to me!0 -

there's a world of difference from looking like a scrawny pathetic stick insect and a huge over sized body builder, theres a healthy balance some where in the middle
my wife is always telling me that gerard butler has it spot on as she sits there drooling all over the TV :rotfl:
one for the ladies
Too hairy!!!!!!! And as for those shorts, that really is a turn off. Nice arms and face though.0 -
That professor on sunday evenings is hot. He is that sort of forbidden fruit kind of man isnt he. Almost like having sex with a vicar. I love his voice and his teeth. If he only he dressed better but i cant have it all.
Today i went to see a mortgage advisor person. Matt and i are embarking on saving up around £24,000!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope we manage it, were gunna save £1,500 a month to get there. It sounds a scary leap into adulthood though, something im not really enjoying doing because the easy life of going out and being young is something i dont wanna let go of yet.
Just seeing what you were writing about swimming eric. I used to swim for my local club, gave that up and did synchronised swimming and all the while i never lost any weight, but i figured i must have been eating more. I remember one session on a friday evening was balls hard, and after i had finished that i felt so weak and felt as though i hadnt eaten all day after it. I probably made up for it by eating a mountain when i got home though and hense no weight loss.0
